Hi
Despite the age of this thread hopefully you (the OP) and other people still attempt to cultivate this somewhat mysterious mushroom. I'm just a beginner in this field, but I had this idea I felt I had to share. If it is a stupid idea, then I'm sorry, I will not bother again in the near future. Here it goes...
Since the Psilocybe Semilanceata likes to feed of the roots of dead grass why not put it on dead grass roots? I keep reading about grass seeds for birds and other mediums, but this mushroom probably is very picky and sensitive to what it needs, as most mushrooms often are and have their own substances they prefer to grow on.
So lets say dead grass roots it is, but where to get the dead grass roots on a regular basis? Of course you are not going to hack up your lawn or that of your neighbor, so where do you get dead grass roots? Maybe wheatgrass is the answer?
Wheatgrass is becoming more popular as a health food thing. For instance we got a new Raw food cafe in our town that serves these wheat grass juice shots, they use whole trays of grass for one small shot, the remaining tray with the compost and wheatgrass roots in them gets disposed of. (At least that's my guess, I don't think they keep using the same compost with remaining grass roots in them over and over). Also, all the wheatgrass fibers get disposed of too, so that would come of good use too I'm sure. And wheatgrass is grown fully organic by most people, so it contains no harmful pesticides and other crap! And wheatgrass is the most nutritious grass there is so "they" say, so it probably will provide enough nutrition for the mushrooms.
So why not ask them to save it for you and use it to grow mushrooms on? And if you do not have a local health food cafe, maybe making wheatgrass can be a nice side hobby and new healthy diet?
I hope this can be of any use.
Peace
Wheatgrass:

That is exactly what I was thinking, why not just get a bunch of soil and live grass for your terrarium, and then knock it up with the spores then close the lid let the myc go everywhere then, open the lid and drop the temp?
Why would you try to use stuff the mushroom doesn't like to grow on, thats the only reason why its a difficult mushroom to grow indoors?

Than do it. Lets see your theory work. I for one think it is bold to resurrect a epic thread only to bash the methods of one of the only growers to ever fruit a species. Five years and still only a handful of successful grows. I am just starting to work with this species but I plan to learn from those who have paved the way not bash there methods with my own unproven theories. Put up or shut up and respect Workman for the master he is.

So I have finally found the much talked about WM Ps SL thread...
I've seen this referenced and give my thanks for the information provided within
Funnily, I am trying something similar to that proposed by a poster here, using a soil and grass medium indoors.
Some of you may have seen my post in the UK 2020 thread showing my find, I've now dug up around a square foot around that section and placed it in a container that was cleaned, sterilised and had some grass seed, perlite and potting soil allowed to settle for a few days in to create an environment for the transplant.
This morning I gently extracted that area in question and placed it in the tub, watered thoroughly (perhaps too much) and have placed the other side of the wall to our hot water tank, where it is sitting at roughly 20 celcius. I also sprinkled some more mulching grass seed on the surface, as the patch was bare in places and rife with plantains, so I'm hoping some fresh roots will improve the soil structure as well as providing new paths for the mycelium to explore as I daresay its had a rough year with the heat and my not knowing it was there until November so being unable this year at least to do anything about that, next year however I will be making efforts to keep the area well watered during the dry spells to see if I get a better outdoor harvest next year
I don't know how much success I'll have but please see some pictures here, bear in mind I'm a new to this and while I've done some research my technique will surely leave room for improvement, here I am just trying to try and prove my theory that by taking an active patch and providing the right conditions for vegetation/colonisation that a mycelium could be nurtured to populate the chamber en masse.
I could be wrong, and I'm not expecting huge success given that many before me with much more experience have tried, but I will keep updating this thread in the hopes that I can report something positive and help others in their journey to keep their teachers inside.

Edit below 21/12/2020. Day 5
As per below I over did it on the water after my transplant, things are a little less boggy now, with lots of seedlings popping up now. Once a bit more established in terms of root structure I will leave the Myc to do its thing (if it's in there) and hopefully will have something more to report in a week or two. I'll also chuck some more top soil over to level things out where there are dips and to generally have some fresh nutrients in there for the grass. The grass is getting kind of long in places so I'll trim that down soon to keep it tidy and to allow the new grass seedlings a fair shout at the light.

Do you have any prints of those liberty caps??? I would love to get my hands on a fresh lib print and i have some pretty. Neat prints to trade if ur interested:P I think that you have a pretty good idea, but i am wanting to try to make like an optimal outdoor liberty patch like people do for wood-lovers.

Fun idea, it does look crazy wet to me, ime I've never found libs in an area as water logged as that second image looks.

Thanks and yes you're totally right, I way over did it on the water. That being said the field I dug the patch from is now under water and is so almost every winter, so any Myc in there is probably used to being waterlogged.
Its looking a lot better now, and some of the new grass seed is rooting and throwing up blades. I've had it with the top off in my bay window with a fan on it to assist with making it less boggy, which along with the rooting grass is drying it up a bit, I'll pop an updated picture in my original pose, but yeah a lesson learned there which is keep an eye on the water level through the side when spraying, especially when the soil you remove is damp anyway...
I was just trying to help the grass germinate as soon as possible to give the Myc something to grab seeing as everything else had very shallow roots due to the fields not really being well looked after and got too enthusiastic with the water... Rest assured for the rest of my experiment I do not intent to in any way keep it that boggy!
