I've seen plenty of libertys that look like that when they're young. They have a more 'olive' kind of colour sometimes rather than that trademark psilocybe caramel colour of some other types. Although I've seen plenty of caramel libs too.

Those little suckers must be getting near maturity by now!

Not quite mature yet. The pins in the microbox that I thought had stalled are actually still growing. The caps seem to be a bit malformed on some of them.

Here is a little preview of my next post.

Psilocybe zapotecorum pins just emerging on cased grass seed. I expect them to be more impressive and photo-worthy by Tuesday.

Things are not going very well. The dark caps are aborts.

The problems may be strain related. I am going to use the knowledge learned with this partially successful experiment with a better (more normal) looking sample.

first of i would like to say thx for trying and publicating psi semilanceata
culture indoors, it was quite a thrill.

second i would like to comment a bit on your cake that seems as if it was
somehow 'inadequate' to perform proper fruiting.

after i have looked at your image closer, i found that most hyphal knots
were to be found on the dung (?) covered areas, it seems as if knot
formation would be easier on dung?

maybe try, if it happens to be dung, next time to try a dung mix (straw or something in addition)
or roll your colonised ball in some dung, thereby covering the outside,
incubate a day or two then fruit.

imho sure would be worth a try

I believe the darkn crap your seeing is actually a little peat sprinkled on...I think he mentioned they were pinning only where there was a little peat (put to get some micro activity going, I believe the post about it is above)

actually what he said was
Quote:

Another modified attempt using the same culture. Grass seed spawn with sterilized grass straw (dried weeds from the yard) and a small amount of horse manure. A tiny bit of garden soil was placed on the cake after fully colonized to provide stimulating organisms.

so it would be interesting to case it, not just in tiny areas, but as a whole.
as for me it seems that the knot formation seems to concentrate on the bacteria
laden areas (garden soil)

whatabout that workman?

What stroke me as amazing is the different phenotype in "captive cultivation" compared to the wild one!

Keep it up,you dont see Semilanceatas every day being cultivated succesfully!

Workman- was there any sclerotia formation in the cake?
Have you ever found semi's that give good fast sclerotia formation?

heres that old pic of indoor semi's

I haven't noticed any sclerotia with this grow. I did observe some tiny stones form from an Austrian strain, but nothing impressive. I am aware of that Gartz image but it seems suspiciously staged to me. I have never seen mushrooms grow like that in a flask.

I suspect, and this is only speculation, that Gartz did grow semilanceata indoors but for some reason didn't take any pictures or lost the pictures of the experiment. His written description of his cultivation method seems factual. In an effort to make his publication look more complete, I think he may have placed wild specimens in a flask of colonized compost for the photo. Of course I might be completely wrong.
------------------------------------------
Features of the photo that raise my suspicion (I have a larger and more detailed version to inspect.)

No pins: There are only mature mushrooms with no signs of hyphal knots, immature pins, juvenile mushrooms or aborts.

Natural looking mushrooms: The mushrooms look identical to wild picked mushrooms. This is almost never the case with cultivated mushrooms unless they are under ideal conditions. A flask is hardly ideal and some distortion should be expected. Looking at other grows by Gartz of different species supports this.

Drying of lower mushrooms: The mushrooms on top are moist while deeper in the flask, where it is presumably more humid, the caps are showing the characteristic hygrophanous nature of P. semilanceata. You would expect the mushrooms nearest the flask opening to be experiencing the drying instead of the lower ones.

I thought it looked like somebody just dug up some soil and dumped it in the jar, but never thought of all the other reasons that as to why you doubted it too. I could create a picture which looks more authentic myself.

Second flush of microbox. The mushrooms are becoming more abundant but there are still problems with the form of the mature specimens.
