I believe the process is as follows:

Soak in water for 24 hours
Simmer for one hour
Rinse and drain thoroughly, 30 minutes or so.
Then load in cooking bag or jars and PC for 90 min.

You dont realy have to soak them. I dont and it seems to work just fine for grains like wheat & popcorn.

No contams so far but I pc at ~17psi, not sure if it makes much difference thou.

First I cook the grain till I can bite them in half with my front teeths.

add gypsum. shake

I pc for maybe ~60-70 minutes.

Have probably made well over 50 quart jars using polyfill and not had a single contamination.
I inoculate with live mycel.

soaking them helps the endospores to germinate. IF they dont gerninate they are able to survive the PC and could potentially destroy your grow.

Suitability to polyculture [Re: deanofmean]
    #4249554 - 06/02/05 06:43 PM (18 years, 9 months ago)

Is grain tek, popcorn tec suitable for polyculture ( Spore syringe)? The reason I ask is the shaking. With PF tek everything remains stable colonies/genotypes coexist or compete or invade, hopefully finding an ecological equilibrium. But if you go shaking that up?

when it looks like about 20% colonized shack it. you don't need to be rough with it just mix things up.
the mycelium will seem to disappear, but when it recovers you will be amazed.
