Of frogs and glaucoma...
    #4248326 - 06/02/05 04:03 PM (11 years, 6 months ago)

Psilocyberin: none of diploids threads ever stay on topic.... you start out arguing about frogs and end up arguing about glaucoma.

The object of this thread is to do the inverse of the usual: to start off-topic and then converge and finish on topic.

So, do frogs have free will? What about people with glaucoma?

I can't guide you every step of the way. Sometimes you have to stand on your own two feet, even if you stumble.

I seriously met a young Chinese guy who lost both hands in a bubble-wrap machine. The wrap got jammed and he freed it and was pulled into the rollers. It was so loud, no one heard him screaming for 20 minutes as his bones were pulverlized!

Amazingly, he plays golf and tennis with special adaptations.

While I sometimes joke, this is a true story and not really funny.  :mad2:

I'm a frog. I don't have glaucoma. What's the point of the Universe? And has anyone read the zero point field theory yet?

Horrible tragedy, yes.  but funny?

...bubble wrap?

It's like getting a leg crushed in a pillow factory.  You tell somebody that, and they'll say "Oh damn, how awful for you" while trying their damnedest not to laugh at the bizzarre contrast between mangling-injury and soft-fluffy.

Most likely it's "not really funny" because you know this guy, which makes it personal. If you had never met this person I seriously doubt you would have made the above post.

I like to joke about my Moms recent death. Many find that shocking and are afraid to laugh. I'm working on seeing death as the great equalizer. We are all dying Ha Ha. The big test will be my own death or my partner.

Perhaps death is another concept which reflects our chosen perspective. If you fear death, you believe you are not dying now. More of your time and attention will be focused on avoiding death.

If you realize you are dying now, and have been since you were born, you could use your time and attention for enjoying being alive.

Life is fatal!

Can frogs get glaucoma?
Would you let him smoke some of your green to help him see to catch his dinner?

Republican Values:

1) You can't get married to your spouse who is the same sex as you.
2) You can't have an abortion no matter how much you don't want a child.
3) You can't have a certain plant in your possession or you'll get locked up with a rapist and a murderer.

4) We need a smaller, less-intrusive government.

foudn this at a website FAQ about Glaucoma....

Quote:

Damage to the optic nerve is irreversible because the cable of nerve fibers doesn?t have the capacity to regenerate, or heal itself, when damage occurs. This is why glaucoma is an incurable disease at this point, and why early detection is so important.

Is there any way that damage to the optic nerve can be reversed?
At the present time, no. Research is still in the initial stages of investigating the mechanisms of regeneration and how they can be stimulated. However, there is a lot of exciting work going on in this area.

Optic nerve regeneration is possible in some lower vertebrates. For example, in animals such as fish and frogs, an injured optic nerve regenerates fully, allowing for a complete restoration of vision. In mammals, it has been shown that retinal ganglion cells, when put under conditions found in the peripheral nervous system, can successfully regenerate their axons. Researchers are studying the visual systems of these animals to find out what factors stimulate retinal ganglion cells to regrow their axons and restore the transmission of visual information to the brain.

Also, my dad is an optometrist. I once asked him if Marijuana use helped reverse the effects of Glaucoma. He laughed and scoffed.... I couldnt tell if this was his real professional opinion/fact or if it was just his republican coming out....
