About every year or so, i re-remember the song "what a wonderful world", and it has such an effect on me for the next few days. I incessantly play it over and over again and everytime i find a new level of complete empathy with the world.
The song is so simply put, so simply worded. there are only two things I have ever cried at (as an adult) which were this song, and Mr. Hollands Opus....(not even Old Yeller made me cry).
I am so filled with every possible emotion and just overwhelmed with the beauty of existing. it unlocks the gates of stoicism for me. It reminds me that I dont often enough "Think to myself, What a Wonderful World".....

Now whenever I hear that song I think of the part where it's used sarcastically in Bowling for Columbine to highlight all the offensive foreign policy perpetrated by the U.S.A. in the past 50 years.

It's actually pretty funny that they banned it indefinitely from the radio after 9/11.  I guess cause they thought people would get angry about hearing such an uplifting song in the wake of a tragedy.  They banned a  whole gaggle of good songs  for different reasons...some highlights:
TALKING HEADS - Burning Down the House
SOUNDGARDEN - Blow Up the Outside World, Fell on Black Days, Black Hole Sun(why I don't know)
FRANK SINATRA - New York, New York
REM - It's the End of the World as We Know It
PAUL MCCARTNEY & WINGS - Live and Let Die
DAVE MATHEWS BAND - Crash into Me
RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS - Aeroplane (it's such a happy song )

Isn't it great that certain agencies would use such an occurence as an oppurtunity to assert their own power, for their own self-serving needs?  :mad2:

my favorite banned song for the 9/11 time was Carol King "I feel the earth move", which was written almost 30 years before 9/11.

also, it really sucks that Bowling for Columbine has ruined such a great song for you, but try to see it as being a part of the point the movie was trying to make. Wonderful doesnt mean good, it means full of wonder. The infinite possibilities of human nature and even non-human nature, how we have a capability to do anything, how complex everything is but can be understood so simply at times.

I can't believe they banned Imagine. Imagine gives people hope. Imagine encourages people to forgive. It's the perfect song to play after a tragedy like 9/11 but I'm sure it's never been very popular amongst the Christians who control the government.

That list is bullshit. Most of those songs on that list are all I fucking hear on the radio hear. It's a clear channel station too. I hear Imagine on the oldies station almost at least once an hour, its on heavy rotation.

the songs are back in rotation. But for a time, clear channel had banned those songs...i think. I dont know for sure, but I have seen online petetions against clear channel banning those songs. I also saw a petition once for the banning of all dihydrogen monoxide in all food products. Since I dont listen to any clear channel radio stations, i did not notice it if it did happen.
