Isolation Tanks
    #4247290 - 06/02/05 10:34 AM (11 years, 8 months ago)

I originally started a thread like this a couple years ago in Trip Tips but didn't get many responses, so I thought I would try again here in the Pub. I'd like to here any thoughts/comments on anyone's experiences in an isolation tank. Especially while tripping. Thanks!

I actually had an isolation tank experience myself during 2003. It was interesting. It was really hard for me to clear my head and let go, so I didn't get a full experience. I'd like to try it again though, maybe on a low does of shrooms. Here are a couple pictures for those not familiar:

And a link to a site which explains the tank and its uses: Samadhi

Anyone have any experiences to report??

I always wanted to try an isolation tank. The sessions are kind of expensive though. Have you seen the movie Altered States? The ending gets a bit corny but other than that its pretty good. I think its loosely based around John C Lilly, who did a lot of work with isolation tanks and psychedelics.

also, here's a video of Joe Rogan talking about his experience in an isolation tank after smoking pot.

Yeah. I don't think I'm quite ready for something like that either...

Don't get me wrong I'd do it.

Just not while I'm tripping.

I'd probably enjoy it sober.

Where are there places where you can pay too have a session in one of those?? I always thought those for Scientists, Professors, and lucky college kids who had access to a lab. And the first one he uses in Altered States looks the coolest since he's totally underwater and its vertical.

I think the cool thing about these things is that it is another way to explore consciousness WITHOUT drugs! No doubt it would be fucking intense while tripping, but I would want to try it first sober. We shouldn't use psychedelics as a crutch for spiritual advancement.

Many native americans used sensory deprivation to achieve visions and train their shamans. The vision pit, the sweat lodge... all they are is primitive isolation tanks.

I've always wanted to try one out. I think I'm gonna check out those links and try to find one in tampa!

The sweat lodge is much more than just an isolation tank. Heat plays a crucial role as well. And lots of Native Americans would take peyote and participate in sweat lodges, vision pits. They enhance the effects. If you want to explore consciousness without drugs, try meditation. Psychedelics are not a crutch, they are a key. Some people are so lucky as to have spontaneous psychedelic experiences, but most of us are not and require the chemical key. It is only a crutch if you look at it that way.

the key to enlightenment is inate inside of us. We need nothing external to acheive it. It may be more difficult to reach altered states of consiousness without drugs, but it is not impossible. If you were never to trip again, would you stop believing that we are one with the universe, or that the world exists in harmony? Would a true christian not know how to live a moral and holy life without the bible?

Your soul has no chemical makeup, and these chemicals are not neccessary to set it free.

Well, yes I have to agree with you. There are definitely ways to develop alternate forms of consciousness through very slow and disciplined practices. Much of which are lost in the West unless you get lucky or teach yourself. And then there is dancing and isolation and fasting and all the other forms which some are fun(dancing) and some are not(fasting and sleep deprevation, I hate that one) But, however, since I am sure neither of us took this slow and laborious path to the vision of all as one, i.e. we both tripped, this is fruitless to speak of. Let's just see how often one returns to the substance, as I believe they impart much knowledge and allow one to use more of ones mind or whatever, allows new combination of information to emerge, whatever you wanna call it.

On a level the soul could be said to be made up of energy, which all has the power to be, chemicals or not. Chemicals are another form of energy, so is love, so is light, so am I and so are you as well, ad infintum. Positive energy flows in a certain way, and negative does not flow, or rather makes the flow jagged and discordant. A true Christian following the teaching of Jesus Christ does not need the Bible if he is true to himself. He does have all the needs in his own heart as we are all God on a level and we all can sense something that is bad or wrong, that is if we are aware of HERE and NOW.

Everyday I look out and see everyone as myself, the song Porcelina of the Ocean Blue by The Smashing Pumpkins comes to mind. So are you anti psychedelic use? That seems foolish, as they are powerful keys in the right hands, they can really catapult you forward in your growth as a decent human being. I hope I am wrong, maybe I am reading too much into what you posted.
