Breaking up a fully colinized cake?
    #4246356 - 06/02/05 01:11 AM (11 years, 6 months ago)

If I have a fully colonized cake made from brown rice flour and vermiculite, can I break it apart, add more sterile mixture, lay it out in a shallow container, add some sterile vermiculite as a casing and expect to produce a large crop? or am I risking contaimination? Will this only work with other medium?

Like He Said....

Quote:

What do you mean by "sterile mixture"? If you mean spawning your cake to something.. look here.

If you mean just something to use as a casing.. look here.

Read up some.

Sorry about the repeat! I am currently fruiting 4 cakes. I have 2 left in their jars that are taking a little longer to be covered. I wanted to grow more using one of the jars but not in the same way. I want to use a large cooler I have. I read one way using rye seed, but soon I will have afully colonized cake and want to grow bulk. Can I expand this cake by adding more sterile mixture? Will it work?

If you want to make more jars you can go a grain to grain transfer. Or in this case.. a BrownRiceFlour to grain transfer. I don't have a link to that offhand.. so search for it. Just keep reading. Basically you crumble your jar and add it to other sterile jars instead of injecting spores into them to help speed the process. Read.

If you want to do bulk, get yourself some horse poo. It is the best.
This is the tek that I will be using. But feel free to search and read. Then read.. then read. Then repeat.

In the recipe using poo, it says "incubator" is this just my fruiting terrarium?

See above.
Incubators keep things warm to help them grow.

I find it very hard to believe that you have 4 cakes that are fruiting and you just found this site. I found this site months before i decided to try to grow some cubes

Stop experimenting half way through your first grow. Grow it to maturity, watch it, learn from it. Do this a few times then experiment with different ideas and figure out what works best for you.

you never know...

I had grown for several months before coming to The Shroomery.

My first stop was at the old Forrest Floor...and I got the hell out of there quick!~

There were only 3 or 4 people that were really nice there.

The rest of them are worthless...in my book.

I began growing cakes after I found a book, " how to grow magic mushrooms" on limewire. It is the complete book and is pretty thorough. I have no patience so I ordered a syringe and figured I'd try it. So yes, 4 cakes, each are pint jars size, using brown rice flour and vermiculite. The book also said that the best way to keep the air humid was with a sonic humidifier. What do you guys think? I was just spraying the container and fanning it. But I just got this device off the web. It is a Tropic air. It will take care of a 55 gallon tank exchanging the air in the process. Anyone using this or heard of someone that did?

If you already bought it.. go ahead and use it. But there are many, many, several, lots, multiple ways of doing things. So the best advice to give to anyone just starting is continue what you started with. Reading.
Read about the Double Tub.http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Cat/0/Number/3026085/page//fpart/1/vc/1

The mono tub. This is a recent grow using one. But look for more.
http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat...rue#Post4240982

And then more importantly in my opinion.. start reading about casings. READ ALL OF THESE.
http://www.shroomery.org/index/par/8

That should be a good start. But never stop reading.
Sounds like your off to a good start.

Good luck and Welcome,

~Quiescence~

PS. The links there are only a start. Just so you can get some ideas.
