Syringe needle question G's
    #4245928 - 06/01/05 08:51 PM (18 years, 9 months ago)

Hi, I work at a building that has a shitload of labs. SO I've been yanking some 10 cc syringes lately, also come with the needle. But on one of the floors I found they have a bunch of replacement needle heads. Some are as follows. 18g 1" 18g 1 1/2" both have the red cap. Now the others ones have the yellow cap and are 20 g 1" and 20g 1 1/2/" . Obviously I know the 1 or 1 1/2 is the length of the needle but what does the g represent. I have a few.
I tried 20g yellow cap on one of my finished syringes that had a red cap on which by these needles would be a 18g and it seemed to fit fine. Anyone know anythign about this.

By the way, on the packages the g's are a capital " G"

Thanks

Nathan

And nobody said why don't you get bigger then 10 cause I would love to but they don't have any 25s or 30s in the boxes anymore. But its been great for masks and cloves and hair nets.

Stands for guage. The size diameter of the needle. 18g 1 1/2" needles are perfect.

Yup, and the smaller the guage number, the larger the diameter of the needle.

Hopefully either of them will fit. We have 10cc syringes and a few different gauge needles in the lab I work in, and all the different gauge needles fit the syringes.

The threaded part that screws your needle into your syringe (mine is pink) should be the same size no matter what gauge the needle is. Steal away...and hook a brotha up..

THanks guys, when I pondered on this question at work it hit me like a stone. I should have known better. Duh, gauge is thickness of the needle and not the part that screws. Thanks for the help though.

those will work fine for spore syringes but you will want something fatter for lc's

I've never had problems with LC using a 18g.

Bigger would be better though. Like 16g.
