    #4245553 - 06/01/05 08:57 PM (12 years, 26 days ago)

I dont think these are active.. However I would like to know what they are.

Anyone with an identification?? It would be appreciated.

I saved this one from a box store where they had glued a fake yellow flower to the top of it... Grosse. Irregarless I'm glad I saved it:

From the same store... less the flower:

Stetsonia coryne and Myrtillocactus geometrizans, not active, both very common in nurseries.

#2 has worked well as a grafting stock for me. #1 probably does, too.

Very nice tread. I had been asking my self about these cacti!

Another cactus often found in nurseries is the following one. Can somebody identify it?

Could you get a shot from the top so we can see how pronounced the ribs are?

Could be a cereus or a stetsonia as well

Cereus jamacaru

the central spines on this one can grow up to 5 inches long. It can grow to 10 meters tall with a 14 inch woody trunk. Usually it's stems are blueish.

Beautiful! See,thats why i asked a "from the top" picture.Cereus species usually has very pronounced, outstanding ribs! If you compate it to a trichochereous, especially peruvianus or pachanoi you will see that the later has more rounded ribs if observed from the top.

Nice cereus there by the way, watchout for those lethal thorns!I once had a 2 and a half foot cereus peruvianus branch falling on me while i was taking a cutting and...well,i suffered!

This thread is over 3 years old. Those cacti should be pretty big by now.
