At least Hendrix didn't try to hide obvious things

Paul said they did LSD in an interview, so why would they try to hide it? Anyone who knows something about the Beatles knows its about a painting.

Not saying you're wrong but couldnt the song be one big metaphor?

The Beatles were very talented. I am sure the song could have multiple meanings to it.

Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds

Alright that's a very interesting coincidence indeed.

:sun:

Edit:

Quote:

Some have suggested the song refers to drug use, pointing out that the initials of the title are "LSD" and the lyrics are psychedelic. Lennon and the Beatles, who were often frank about their drug use, denied the song had anything to do with that. However, during a newspaper interview in 2004, McCartney was quoted as saying, "Day Tripper, that's one about acid. Lucy in the Sky, that's pretty obvious. ...There's others that make subtle hints about drugs, but, you know, it's easy to overestimate the influence of drugs on the Beatles' music."

Taken from the above link.

I'm 100 percent sure that the song is 100% about acid. Can you guys say "the beatles are pulling our leg?" about the julian drawing crap?

I believe it has multiple meanings also. Either way very good song.

"Picture yourself in a boat on a river,
With tangerine trees and marmalade skies
Somebody calls you, you answer quite slowly,
A girl with kaleidoscope eyes.

Cellophane flowers of yellow and green,
Towering over your head.
Look for the girl with the sun in her eyes,
And she's gone.

{REFRAIN}
Lucy in the sky with diamonds.
Lucy in the sky with diamonds.
Lucy in the sky with diamonds.
Ah... Ah...

{VERSE 2}
Follow her down to a bridge by a fountain
Where rocking horse people eat marshmallow pies,
Everyone smiles as you drift past the flowers,
That grow so incredibly high.
Newspaper taxis appear on the shore,
Waiting to take you away.
Climb in the back with your head in the clouds,
And you're gone.

{REFRAIN}

Picture yourself on a train in a station,
With plasticine porters with looking glass ties,
Suddenly someone is there at the turnstyle,
The girl with kaleidoscope eyes.

{REFRAIN REPEATED AND FADED}"

Dark Star

Dark star crashes, pouring its light into ashes.
Reason tatters, the forces tear loose from the axis.
Searchlight casting for faults in the clouds of delusion.
Shall we go, you and I while we can
Through the transitive nightfall of diamonds?

Mirror shatters in formless reflections of matter.
Glass hand dissolving to ice petal flowers revolving.
Lady in velvet recedes in the nights of goodbye.
Shall we go, you and I while we can
Through the transitive nightfall of diamonds?

the whole psytrance/goatrance genre came out of the common use of psychedelics. lsd is still the general choice in psytrance gatherings. listen to both hallucinogen albums and you'll get the idea. also most artists in the psyambient genre could be said to be lsd inspired. entheogenic, shulman, bluetech, jairamji. check these out.

earlier theres ozric tentacles some fine ass psychedelic rock.

Pretty much anything and everything by RUSH, especially the Moving Pictures album, and most especially, Limelight;

Living on a lighted stage
Approaches the unreal
For those who think and feel
In touch with some reality
Beyond the gilded cage

Cast in this unlikely role,
Ill-equipped to act
With insufficient tact
One must put up barriers
To keep oneself intact

Living in the limelight
The universal dream
For those who wish to seem

Those who wish to be
Must put aside the alienation
Get on with the fascination
The real relation
The underlying theme

Living in a fisheye lens
Caught in the camera eye
I have no heart to lie
I cant pretend a stranger
Is a long-awaited friend

All the worlds indeed a stage
And we are merely players
Performers and portrayers
Each anothers audience
Outside the gilded cage

Limelight

[This is a metaphor for altered-state perception of oneself as an actor-agent inside the mind.]

Living on a lighted stage
Approaches the unreal
For those who think and feel
In touch with some reality
Beyond the gilded cage. [mystic insight into the problem of perception/representation, perceptual mental constructs]

Cast in this unlikely role, [compare song Entre Nous] [the ego-agent is logically impossible]
Ill-equipped to act, [the actor agent can't exist and one is frozen in spacetime unable to really change any action]
With insufficient tact,
One must put up barriers [must retain ego-boundary and egoic thinking to stay viable and intact in the form of a coherent person]
To keep oneself intact. [ego dis-integration and cognitive fragmentation during the dissociative state -- loose binding of mental constructs]

Living in the Limelight,
The universal dream [egoic consciousness is a shared dream]
For those who wish to seem. [to seem like inner primary controller-agents rather than puppets of the Ground of Being]
Those who wish to be [who want to be a genuine agent or understand control-agency]
Must put aside the alienation,
Get on with the fascination, [don't be alienated from LSD; be fascinated with it]
The real relation,
The underlying theme. ["look for the *underlying* not the surface themes of these lyrics]

Living in a fisheye lens, [again compare the covers of Rubber Soul and Are You Experienced, and "sunlight on chrome" -- mystic altered-state perceptual distortion]
Caught in the camera eye.
I have no heart to lie, [ego-agent at the core of egoic thinking is a lie, an illusion]
I can't pretend a stranger [in the mystic state the ego is alienated, a stranger, a remote fiction]
Is a long-awaited friend.

All the world's indeed a stage,
And we are merely players, [we ego-agents are illusory]
Performers and portrayers,
Each another's audience
Outside the gilded cage. [of mind, of the wall of perception] [search "prison", "cage"]

I read where Robert Hunter wrote the lyrics to the Grateful Dead song "China Cat Sunflower" while in his room tripping on LSD looking at his cat.

Syd Barrett had said in an interview, that 'See Emily Play' was written after meeting a girl in the woods after a show.

Now i'm pretty sure he was tripping on some LSD at that time..

This is Smashing Pumpkins covering an Animals song (I think, maybe just an Eric Burdon song? don't even know...). It's called Girl Named Sandoz, named after the Swiss company that legally manufactured LSD for decades. Great song!
p.s. Anyone got the original? I'd love to hear it.

The song is clearly about LSD, Paul has even stated that the song is about LSD. Its just so obvious that Im sure John thought itd be funny to tell the squares that its not. Reminds me of when my friends mom told me that the song wasnt about LSD and about a painting, I just laughed getting Johns joke.
