Flush yield ratio to dry substrate?
    #4243681 - 06/01/05 12:25 PM (12 years, 4 months ago)

With regards to Pleurotus ostreatus it seems like I read somewhere that you should expect about a 1 to 1 ratio of mushroom yield to dry substrate weight. In other words 70 lbs of dry substrate should produce 70 lbs of mushrooms... is that correct?

Uhhh.... wouldn't it be obvious to assume that when you loose water.. your ratio goes up?  I mean wouldn't it be a little wierd to have the same yield when wet AND dry??  Maybe they just grow already dried

Either you didn't read or you didn't understand what I said.. The question is - If you start out with say 15 lbs of "dry" "substrate" will you harvest 15 lbs of mushrooms? The questions makes the assumption that you pasteurize the substrate with water and follow normal/optimum growing standards. Nobody ever said anything about drying the mushrooms.

so, right now i am at .61 - If i was at 1 that would be 100% humm .61 is giving me 8.5 lbs per bag at 15 lbs dry sub weight. My goal was 12 lbs.. Ive had 2 flushes so far and hope there will be more.

Read http://www.pjbs.org/pjnonline/fin196.pdf .
A BE of 60% seems to be standard with non supplemented substrate.
