Does Case Depth Matter??
    #4243177 - 06/01/05 08:01 AM (11 years, 6 months ago)

Hi, im about 3 or 4 weeks aways from starting my first grow and just have a question about casing. Im using Roadkills PF-Tek on Horse-Manure guide. He suggests putting about 3" of manure into the case and then mixing the broken up cakes into that. Now, my first question is does the size (Depth, width & lenth) of the case influence the growing of the shrooms at all. So will it matter if because im using smaller cases I only use, say, a 1.5" layer of manure (not doing this for bulk cult, for personal use only, im using the Horse Manure Tek for potency ). Or does the case size and amount of manure greatly influence the potency and yield, although this is for personal use, id like a decent yield so i can store these things for the future.

Not really. 2-3 inches of substrate depth is fine. I'm not familiar with RK's tek, but i'm sure if ya follow his instructions, you'll have sweet success!!

deeper substrate = larger shrooms  as for total yield, the strain and habitat are factors too.
and yes, dung is better for potency  , weather its 1" or 4" no matter.
fallow RKs tek as closely as you can for the first go.
good luck

Could you link to the tek you are using?

Ok cool, thanks for the reply's. Ill try my best to follow RK's tek as closely as possible. Just that im limited with vertical space, because of stealth reasons I havent got very tall tubs. Ill have to just make do with what ive got, but btw, what happens if the shrooms wana grow further than the lid of the fruting chamber allows them, will they grow side ways?? This doesnt bother me, but i just dont want it to affect their growth in a negative way. My tubs will have 26cm of vertical space on the inside btw.

Heres the Tek im using:

here is another method of pasturizing

it would seem to me that your situation might make it a bit difficult to pasturize a bunch of poo, eh?
you could try pre-pasturized from the man

Thanks man, if the funds are available ill proly go with pre-pasturised manure like in that link, but id rather save the money seeing as though i have free access to as much horse manure as i want. Thanks for the other tek aswell, i might blend the two slightly, because i like the idea of adding Verm and using those plastic Autoclave bags, looks alot better than a pillow case.
