need help soon..honey wtr

one of my honey waters has chunks of brown stuff in it and it is also very dark brown colored. I think this may just be that i put too much honey in it an it caramelized while i was pcing it. It it however much more colonized than the rest of my waters. They are more clear and yellowish. This is my first time. How do I know the difference between contams and mycelium in this water? thats my question. thanks

I would have to say that, with honey water, your best weapon against contamination is your nose. If it smells bad then dont use it. What I tend to do is suck up however many syringe I need/want and then smell it. If it smells bad I will shoot out all the solution, resterilize it, and then try again with different honey water.

That's basically it. If you want to tell contam's from mycelium, smell it. If it smells like your month old sweaty gym socks . . . pitch it. N e other color besides white is contam (except for blueing in cakes)

Sounds like you carmalized some honey, hence the brown floaties. Mycelium is pretty hard to miss, large white floating balls that meled together. Basically, contams usually grow while floaties stay the same for several days. It's hard to contaminate honey water, if you PC'd it good and didn't let the needle touch the liquid when you innoculated it (squirt in through top of jar, don't immerse needle in water) then it's probably not contams unless you have bad spores
