Is your competitive nature healthy or not?
    #4241468 - 05/31/05 09:01 PM (12 years, 6 months ago)

Say you are guaranteed to win a 5 million dollar lottery. Its yours. You also have a choice for your 5 closest friends to win that much as well or it can be given to strangers. They don't know that you can make this choice for them to win it.

Would you rather be the only winner in your circle and have your friends envy you and kiss your ass and have financial fuck you power over them Orrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

would you want for them to win the same amount along with you.

Think about it. Your answer will tell you a lot about why you compete for the things you do and the state of internal health, balance and security you are in while doing it.

I surely would want my friends to win. I would have more of their company, because no more work days.

The real question is, if you won the lottery (no extra money), would you keep the same friends or find some richy rich friends?  I knew a woman who won, in fact we were friends until she won.  Those dinners I bought her before she won meant nothing.  In fact, all she had time to do after that (or so she said) was to look for cars and houses.  I didn't hit her up for anything but she definitely changed from winning.

Many people who have won the lottery find they have way more friends than before and everyone is needy greedy.  That or they blow it all on booze, drugs and hookers.   Some even manage to lose all that money back to the lottery.  Knuckleheads!

Gambling addiction is no joke.  I saw a show where a lady was addicted to scratchers.  She actually won big but kept buying more and more scratcher lottery tickets.  They showed her with a freaking huge pile of them on her kitchen table.  She probably got carpal tunnel from excessive scratching.  :frown:

I would give it to total strangers, for serveral reasons

1. why would there be all the money acomulated on one place? I mean, I have 5 millions, and each of my friends do, when we can all live out of just 5 millions that I get.

2. It would be selfish and unjust to chose who gets 5 millions acoarding to my personal emotional attachments. It's like giving a job to a girl with a great ass.

3. Those whom I don't know can't get any help from me because I don't know of their troubles. I CAN help my friends any time because I see them and I know what they need.

I'd buy myself a house and some great photo gear, maybe open some bussiness, and me and my friends could live from the rest of the money.

But to be honest, I don't want 5 millions. I want 10 000 to spend (those would be much sweeter to spend) and to continue to live.

Good question. I love the friends I have. I would not trade them. I wouldn't mind a few more though. Great friends are hard to find and almost like winning a lottery.

Money and friends often don't mix. If you want to end a friendship, loan someone money without a written agreement and collateral.

Call me cynical, but that's been my experience...

You're right, I want some ugly girl shaped like a pear working for me.  That way, I can focus on work and not keep wanting to look at her ass.

I don't think that is competitive nature, it is being greedy or not. A competitive nature is entirely different.

Not really. This question has little to do with greed. You get your 5 no matter what, no more no less.

By how you would want for your closest friends to win it as well or not can tell you a lot about yourself and if you would love to feel more financially powerful then them or if you prefer an even playing field with others close to you.

Some people like to be one up and some don't need it.

I don't see the difference as long as some other humans get it.

The point of setting up this dynamic is to examine if you would love to suddenly have that sort of finacial power to hold over them or if you would want them to stay on a level financial power playing field with you.

I saw your considerations and they were interesting, all the comments were. I am not wanting to judge anyone for their choices in the post. This was put up more for self examination.

You and your five friends could give their 25 million away to charities and live on you 5.

Do you think THEY would go for that?

If they wouldn't, then you just might like the idea of having a say over how they can help you spend your money.

Once your friends get it, they can spread the wealth around to needy causes. Strangers may hoard or waste it on slot machines. Something to think about.

I think I'd want to be the only winner, as that way if any of my friends were a minor threat to me I could take them out. Money would only fund their competition and arrogance, so I'd need to get to them before they tried to get to me.

The reason you gave doesn't apply, as I could care less if people envied me or kissed my ass. All that does is subtract from survival and the important aspects of life.

After all, if you let someone kiss your ass, you already have your back turned to them.

yes, but you can't count on them to do it, I know my friends wouldn't. I love 'em but they are selfish as hell, exept two of them

anyway. This way, it is in my hands, and while not all 25 millions can go to charity, at least 20 of it can go to some people who are not my friends, because my friends would get my 5 millions anyway.

Are you saying the best of human nature is to strive to be better than others? That is only good from the perspective of the one who is getting best, others are getting less good as he is getting better (whatever "better" means) So it is best of human nature to diminish effoarts of all around you?
