Actives in Israel
    #4239689 - 05/31/05 01:19 PM (11 years, 6 months ago)

hey guys, i'm currently on vacation in the holy land and i was talking to a friend about magic mushrooms. The question came up as to what active species grow in Israel. i'm from Georgia so i'm not familiar with the varieties around the middle east. Any help would be greatly appreciated. If anyone knows about any actives specifically in Jerusalem, all the better.

You might have to wait for a response from one of the FAQ reccommended shroomers before you get a good answer.

"jews sure can eat mushrooms"

actually, portobello mushrooms, yes. drugs of any kind forbidden by most gentile/middle eastern religions(except islam maybe since hash is very common in the middle east) but- if your familiar with the jewish belief of koshur foods- pretty much no bottom dwellers or animals like a pig(since it is fed from scraps), things like that are to not be eaten. and, any shroom that grows on cow shit is probably unkoshur. since its not technically manure. not that all shrooms go on cow shit, but something tells me it would be unkoshur to eat a shroom you find growing in the wild. because its not really berry picking in the forest, its hunting for something t hat will make you trip. and since most fresh shrooms have maggots in them, im pretty sure thats unkoshur too. and since shrooms were part of pagan religions.

What about Gymnopilus spectabilis? I think I remember reading in the Worldwide Geographical Distribution of the Neurotropic Fungi that this species can be found in Israel.

Yes, and Dimmy, try the search button. I'm sure this question has been asked many times before.

KidgardFromSRQ, the question if the consumption of mushrooms is kosher or not has _nothing_ to do with the actual occurence of mushrooms in a country, please keep that in mind.
