For Those Using TiT and Water Pump....
    #4238445 - 05/30/05 11:07 PM (18 years, 10 months ago)

How did you secure your pump to the bottom? I got a free pump so I thought I would give it a try. Magash suggests a kind of tape he got at a marine store, but I am wondering if duct tape would work. What do you use?

Just a thought. could you have something heavy, like bring on the cord near the pump so it doesnt get displaced. Then the pump itself would only tilt up and touch the second tub correct?

I'm not sure what you mean. I tested the pump in my sink and it's pretty powerful so it really needs to be held down somehow. Tape seems the only way. Is duct tape waterproof??

damn, was hoping my answer would have worked
:smirk:

duct tape is water proof, but it just seems like it would get messy. I would use it though.

As a matter of fact, I got a hot glue gun the other day. That'll do the trick??

i don't see why not...it's not the best bonding substance but should work at least for awhile. try to avoid flexing the bottom of your tub at all since the glue will be more likely to just break off that way.

Hmmm I guess I can try a combo of the glue and tape. Thanks

i just ziptie the pump to my heater. but for any aquatic bonding i highly recommend GOOP. that stuff sticks to anything and is nice and bendy.. you can even pull it clean off if you really really work at it. I have practically held entire fishtanks together with it. Just about any of the GOOP types will work since they all perform the same even if they are "automotive" "marine" "household" "outdoor" etc... its just marketing. I have also used GOOP to seal up any holes i make in my little air pump box.. makes an airtight seal

I went and bought a metal horseshoe shaped clamp that has screws on the sides.

Set me back a buck or two.  It just weighs it down.  Works great.

I think there is a thread around here somewhere about it.

i used rubber cement on the suction cups on my water pump. (you must let this stuff dry ALL THE WAY!!!) then fill with water and place the other tub on top. but this also works for the flexing of moving it in and out.

I think the type of tape Magash was referring to is metal repair tape. It looks like tinfoil but one side is sticky. Some times you can find it in the automotive section or maybe autozone. I used it one time on a hole i had in my muffler.
