The oatmeal may work, I doubt the white rice will. The reason I say that is because oatmeal probably has the nutrients for mycelium growth and potency, where as white rice really doesn't have any nutrients at all. Who knows, go for it and see!

The oatmeal tends to turn into gel. It isn't good to use for cakes. Maybe mixing it up with other more textured ingredients like birdseed and some verm would give enough texture and airiness to keep it from gelling to much. bluhoney

WRF, no go. substrates need to be whole grain.
have seen rolledoats done pf style. the results were awesome. 
mycelium seems to like the seed husk.
food grade millet (from the health food store) didn't work for me, because the husks where removed.

here i go replying to myself again.  wheat bran is widely used as supplement in substrates, and it is all husk. i think that should tell us something.

where u useing Quick-oates or instant? if so, it may have been processed too much, and all that starch that's in the oats gelled like corn starch does when its cooked.

no not oats but oatmeal flour it is next to the brown rice flour it is a specal order item!!!!!!
