Help IDing a find
    #4235705 - 05/30/05 05:23 AM (11 years, 9 months ago)

My buddies and I went on yet another shrooming adventure, but this time we could only find one. I've never really taken a spore print before but I did what could do.

Info:
Found in the panhandle of Florida
Found in an open field growing on cow dung
Bruises blueish
Spore Print is purpleish
I dont know if those are gills or not
Cap is 5cm across
Stem is 9 1/2cm
Smells like any other mushroom i've smelled before
Any other info needed, just ask.

Any help would be great! Thanks.

looks like psilocybe cubensis. fits the criteria.
i will assume of course you are acurate in your description as the photos are too blurry, and the mushroom looks awfully maggotty and old. you can eat a maggotty mushroom but open the stipe and have a look. like worms?

It just looks old and nasty like that because I had to shove it in my pocket. there arent any maggots in it.

Looks like a half rotten cube to me. I can see the remains of an old ring and the bluing on the stem is apparent.

Looks like a cubie, indeed. If they get wet and soggy, they can fall apart, and that's what the gills look like, they were wet and not maintained.

The first pic looks like it's cubensis, that cap shape/coloring is right on.

I just checked the spore print again in the daylight and its black with a slight tint of purple. Mostly black though.

Sooo psilocybe cubensis it is, then?

well i personally dont think its cubensis, i just dont see any clear blueing. and as for eating it i think that would be quite pointless, one little cap wont make you trip. it could however cause extreme damage do your insides and make you wish you were dead. I suggest you not eat it, but thats up to you. good luck.

No harm can come from questioning. "Best" case scenerio: You prove it right without relying on the fact that it is widely accepted. Argument strengthened. "Worst" case scenerio: You realize you might have been wrong. The new answer might or might not be what you want to hear, but it beats defending yourself with bullshit.

Northern Florida. I think we're going again tomorrow when there will actually be shrooms out there. Weather is perfect. :-)

It was definitely a cube. This tastey little morsel has had me feeling pretty damn good for about 2 hours now. It wasn't nasty when I made myself a milkshake. :-)
