    #4234636 - 05/29/05 11:12 PM (11 years, 6 months ago)

hey guys im new to finding mushrooms and id appreciate some help with some ive found, i dont have a picture as my camera broke today but i will describe them as good as i can and hopefully you can help me to know if they are legit and or what to look out for in bad ones. i found these growing at about 6500ft a run of horse manure that had been decomposing for a while.
a) mid west growing in horse manure
b. gills dark dark brown or black looking from underside,
c. measurements-largest one i found was 1.5" at base of cap by 5" from top of cap to bottom of stem, smalles was 1"x3"
d. Characteristics of the stem (white, feels hallow from outside when opened thin fibers within but not thick and hard,
e. Characteristics of the cap (white with light brown spore prints , foamy texture feels like soft styrophome, one coned shaped cap with rounded at peak, other(smaller one) half en egg shaped same texture,
f. not quit sure what you identify as the spore print but the cap has light brown color over white.
g. Color that the mushroom bruises- picked earier today brusies seem to appear on cap and stem in the light brown color slowly getting darker.
h. Scent of mushroom-sweetish smell but a definete manure odor, same scent as ones i have tripped off of before

there is no 'rule'.

there are a number of characteristics that need to be taken in consideration to ID any mushroom.

if you don't know what it is, don't eat it. sounds like it might be panaeolus antillarum, inactive/inedible.

DH
