Cubensis in Ohio
    #4234187 - 05/29/05 08:03 PM (11 years, 6 months ago)

This isn't really a natural find, but it's outdoors and I felt this would be a good place to show this. I've been discarding spent substrates into an outdoor pile of sheep manure, and to my surprise I had a nice cluster growing. It's the first time I've seen a cubensis outdoors. I'm really amazed these can grow in our climate, it gives me hopes for a nice outdoor bed project.

They bruise blue. Can someone confirm the I.D., or could this be another species I'm not aware of? Thanks.

If they bruise blue thats a clear sign that are a psilocybe. If you could take a picture of the gills and give some more ID info that would be great.

Thanks for the response. I have little doubt they're cubes, but just wanted to verify. Maybe these shots can clear it up a bit.

if you die... they were not.

Wow, these are the thickest, hardiest cubes I've ever seen. As solid as they come. Is this a characteristic of outdoor cubes, or a nutritional issue (manure), or a combination of the both? I wonder

Either way, I think some indoor projects using sheep manure are definitely in the cards now.

I saw some come up in a garden last year in MN, same thing, thick and dense as hell. One fruit about 4 inches tall got three of us pretty high.
