Piano Roll/NoteProperties Time Duration question in FL5
    #4232051 - 05/29/05 01:28 AM (11 years, 6 months ago)

Hi guys, thanks for helping me out as of late. I really appreciate it!

I have a question concerning note duration in Fruity Loops 5. When I record a piece of music, I go into the piano roll to even out each note. However, I wonder if there is a way to highlight each note in piano roll and make the duration of each note equal rather than double-clicking on each note to set the duration (WHICH WILL TAKE FOREVER!!!!).

Thanks in advanced. I hope my question was clear and understandable.

There isn't really a way to do it all at once.... however...

you can set the length of the note by dragging the right side of a note with the pencil or paintbrush tool [hover over the end until you get a left right arrow].

you can also use the pencil tool to create a note, drag the right side to the length you want. Now that you have set one note to a specific length, any new not that you create with the pencil or paintbrush tool will be that same length, even if you right click to delete a note, and then lay down a new one.
So now you can just go through one by one, and delete each note, then click to lay a new note in it's position with that set length, these new notes will also be locked to the grid.

hope that helps

Anisotropic, thanks for the reply! Much appreciated!

I figured something like this might be the only solution. But it would take a while to replace each note. I wonder why they didn't include the duration option for all highlighted notes... that would help extremely... is this option available in other FL versions?

just use the selection tool to select all the notes you want to make longer. Then drag them to the right, that also works.

But there length is relitive, for instance if you drag all the highlighted notes 4 steps, they will all just get 4 steps longer. (the will not be the same length unless they started the same.)

Yea I was trying that. It really sucks that FL5 won't let you highlight desired notes and be able to change the duration of all of them at once. Bah!

You wouldn't happen to know how to add a drum beat perfectly to an already recorded channel, would ya? What I did was record a drum beat on one channel and added another channel on top of it and played to the best of my ability along the drum beat LOL!!! I'm waaaaay off like Al Bundy aiming at the toilet.

"You wouldn't happen to know how to add a drum beat perfectly to an already recorded channel, would ya?"

Look up Beat Slicer and how to Quanitize. (other wise you would basicly have to go in and chop out each individual drum hit)

Hey, I noticed that when I download and import midi files and look at the notes in Piano Roll, the note duration and placement of each notes is perfectly even...

Does anyone know that this is possible to do easily with some sort of midi sequencer? Because Fruity Loops 5 won't let you even out duration and placement of notes in a step (you have to go in Piano Roll and do it manually for each note).

Can anyone assist????

Just because it's midi doesn't mean that they played it live.
I'm thinking that is a note structure someone wrote while in a step sequencer.
