Spirit Totem
    #4231801 - 05/28/05 11:37 PM (12 years, 1 month ago)

I remember growing up, always being fascinated with wild cats, particularly the cheetah. But it wasnt until recently that I wondered what my spirit totem was. Prior to these last few days, I had felt very volatile for some reason, and I was looking inwards to find some sort of expression for my feelings, and who and what I was.

Also learning about my last name, and what it really means, like a feral cat, untamed, and wild. Some of my close friends came to call me my new nickname i generated for myself "Sean Wild", a better term to describe my state than the "cultivated" + "socialized" last name as it exists now.

My friend was on a recent trip, and became hypersensitive to peoples movements and how that seemed to emmulate in some form another form, that seemed to shadow them in a way. My good friend commented to me that I looked like a wild cat, a black panther. And since i have done some research, i have found how strikinly simillar the spirit totem of the Black Panther and myself are alike.

If you wanna look, just click on my sig

I read a book where a Lakota indian shaman was interviewed at depth. He expressed amusement at how an indian will choose a totem animal like a fish, a mouse, skunk, rabbit, or other meak or otherwise unimpressive animal. While white people almost always choose impressive predatory animals like eagles, wolves, bears, mountain lions, and the like. They are strongly influenced by what they percieve as native american stereotypes.

I was walking through a bad neighborhood when accosted by three thugs. I called on my spirit animal for help and a cute chipmunk appeared. The street toughs laughed, squashed the little fellow and took my money. Now I want a cougar as my totem.

Wow, I am impressed. You have a totem animal that can be seen and interacted with by others. This is obviously proof for the reality of spiritual phenomenon.

Well from what i read, considering the kind of attributes of this specific spirit totem, and how it interacts with others, as well as the fact that its influenced by the moon? Which is also my astrological sign. And i guess the fact that they are really self controlled, or stress self control. What i read about the relenquishment of self control, and the spirit totem itself, i can really identify with. Also the whole idea of metamorphasis and shape shifting, in dealing with situation i guess. I didnt wholly base it on a sense of power, but more of what i consider attributes most associated with my personality.

I dont even know if black panthers are even in North America at all? So i dont know if this would be directly applicable to the Native American culture. I dont think i would have really based this on a stereotype of stereotypical native american animals.

Whether i have arrived at this conclusion about this specific totem is correct, who knows. I think its interesting exploring these kind of relationships, between people, and animals and kind of this old cultural/spiritual connection.

Exploring? Relationship? You are stuck in your imagination, not running through the jungle with a wild cat learning anything about it.

Please explain how you are exploring your relationship with an animal by not interacting with it.
