Garden FAQs
    #4229764 - 05/28/05 01:28 PM (11 years, 6 months ago)

The ethnobotanical garden contains tons of information.
Some of them are really nice presented. But are not somehow archived.
Why don?t we start creating something like the ?FAQs? of the mushrooms section.

Everybody who has an experience growing a plant or somebody who has a new technique could contribute.

So what do you think about it?

the faq that's stickied is old and needs updating, but it does have a list of good threads, however it's far from comprehensive.

I'd like to see a different format than what we have for indexing.. if you guys have ideas post em here, and i'll negotiate perhaps some space on the boardes for us to play with.

Heh Neuro you *Almost* got PMed by me,im trying to brind the attention of the mods of this board to this thread. I also PMed Aneglakya since i think he could help somehow (if he wants to of course).

The ethnobotanical garden is propably one of the places in the shroomery along with the mushroom cultivation boards that signal-to-noise ratio is high.I will be frank, subforums like that are the ones that keep the sap of knowledge flowing AND keep people coming back at those boards,at least me!

The problem with online information is that once i do a basic search on a subject i like (lets concentrate on entheogens here) and i pick the basics its very hard to uncover new information.Psychotria viridis seed germination for example: Once one finds the "soak in bleach" method thats all! No more info, every search will yield finding the same info over and over copied and pasted on multiple forums and multiple websites. Most of the information follows the same trend, and uncovering new "gems" is a painstaking procedure that not many indulge into .For example : check out how many times huascas, ayahuascas and anahuascas are mentioned and the answer most give is the standar "erowid" one. Few people ,very few, have uncovered and mention the "On Phenethylamines and Potentiation" By Ott which is an EXCELLENT source for every anahuasca discussion!

So i think its time all those little gems ,both threads and offsite links are gathered here. The format could be something like this : Categorized by effect (eg psychedelics, stimulants ,etc etc) subcategory will be the plant and it will contain info available. The info priority could be A)basic info b)advanced info and where applicable c)experimental procedures/info to be verified/allowing for research or something along these lines. This could be done as a thread or even as a wiki!

Another solution would be to follow the path of a pretty good signal-to-noise ratio upholder, usually found at ODD,that of Wiccan Seeker. Have a look at how he tackled the FAQ issue, utilizing the best/most usefull threads in ODD http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Cat/0/Number/4025130/an/0/page/0

Nice huh?

Sounds like a great idea. I have been trying to learn much from this forum, but I still have many questions. I would love to see the excellent threads in an organized database.

Any news / ideas?

One idea is to create a FAQ submission subforum where people would :

*Submit Teks, Discuss them , modify them and finally convert them to a standalone text!

*The same thing could happen to some already existing threads. ( a lot of them are in Psilomans link)

It?s a pity to let so much knowledge to sink at the bottom of the forum!

Awesome ideas guys, i'm in full agreeance. I'm willing to help organize faqs/teks on growing plants, and bring more thorough information to the boards. I'm trying to think of how to help right now....and i can't think of a thing, i'm blocked! I'll definitely post back here once i think of some ideas on how to organize this. This is really what i've been wanting to see on the shroomery, more thorough information in the ethnobotanical section!

Great, It?s really nice that you liked it!

Another option could be expanding the General FAQ contribution forum so that it includes Garden techniques and ?other? Teks.

i would like to see it set up like shaman australis site, just the names in alphabetical order once you click on the plant/cacti tell us a bit about it, what effects, traditional uses, how to prepare it, what it makes, and the likes of, and some extra links to other info on the net, maybe we all can send in our favourite links and organize them into the plant catagories or list them seperately under methods or new techs.

And of course many many many guides with summep up concise information on how to cultivate them....

And thats because : "Bad boys ,Bad boys, whatcha gonna do,whatcha gonna do when criminalisation comes for you!" . Finding the preperatation of it could be quite useless if one doesnt have the first material to start off,and that is a healthy plant!

I like the idea of having the plants listed alphabetically. I also think the most important information to include is on how to cultivate the plant, and then history, preperation, etc. Would it be alright to type lots of information out of a book i just bought recently (Heavenly Highs by Peter Stafford), of course giving Peter due credit. This book has really good historical info, and preperations and such. I want to quote him on the Virola species, and Kava Kava mainly.

Hey, any progress?

Why don't we make a FAQs submissions sub forum as a first step?
