How important is lighting for the cakes and how much should they get??

they need light to grow, 4 hrs a day is good. i just did a casing and lighted it with a string of christmas lights in my closet, left it on for about 24 hours and temps rose to almost 85 degrees; above desired levels. i will now start giving them only two 2 hour intervals per day, morning and evening to keep temps down. keep that in mind when lighting but they need very limited light.

Is florescent lighting OK? I know it won't work for certain other flora many of us grow, but how about shrooms?
