slow colonizing and no pins
    #4229465 - 05/28/05 10:40 AM (12 years, 5 months ago)

I've had some rye grain colonizing with z strain for a long timenow and there has been several posts about my disapoointment. well last week they were finally colonized. (it took a whole month). yes all growing parameters were good. There was no contamination and several other strains incubated with the same setup finished in normal time. it was the strain.
They were released form there jars and dunked and rolled in verm and birthed last week. I still have no pins. I was hoppin gto get one mushroom to print. but i dont think this is going to happen.
Has anyone ever had any luck fruiting slow colonizing mycelium???

Hmmm..
I love Z strain, I had a number of rye jars (pint size, 500ml) colonize in 2 weeks, no problem.

Is your temperature in the 70's?

I have heard Z-strain is extremely good for forming rhizomorphs and a sort of average colonizer. Currently my friend is working with Koh Samui Super strain (don't confuse it with normal Koh samui... its totally different) and the shit is retarded. It rips through a properly prepared rye jar in about 10 days with a multispore innoc (average time is closer to 14 or 13 days, but it can colonize in under 9 if conditions are perfect) and this is with no incubator. It seems to be the most agressive colonizer I have ever seen, now if my friend can just get it to fruit... but seriously think about picking up some of these shits, they're really good. Also check out www.mushmush.nl for their rye grain prep technique and formulas... I think it's by far the easiest way to prep grain, no need to soak it and it really works.

did you introduce the myc to all the appropriate conditions for fruiting?

1.Temp drop
2.at least 12hrs of light/day
3.increased O2 availability
