It says "inoculate" lol...
How would you inoculate, step by step? Would you reomove the coffee filter then shoot right down in the hole, piercing the tyvek? Then what do you use to cover the inoculation puncture hole you just made in the tyvek? A bandaid?

Shoot right through the coffee filter + Tyvek; it won't leave a hole big enough to cause you any trouble.

Drill two holes in the jar lid(s). One for gas exchange, another to inoculate through.
When you pull sheath off needle - wrap it in alc swabbed paper towel, or cotton ball. Remove coffee filters - push needle through hole & tyvek, 1 squirt down center 1 in each corner (against the glass), withdraw needle, tape over hole - replace coffee filters.
Don't shake jar(s)& incubate.

LOL... I'm not offended. Everyone is entitled to their opinion.
In-so-far as I used the term "inocultate" in that old 6T post, I based that on the thought that how to do so - is so simple - it required no explanation.
Now, I know it did - for those who NEVER HAVE.
Clean inoculation is best done by keeping the needle wrapped at all times in a damp alc swab. Doing so - decreases the possibility of any contaminate in open air coming in contact with the needle & being introduced into the filter the needle pass's through & into the jar - that way.

Well, I followed Doc's TEK to the tee on my first attempt and failed miserably. The part about draining for 20 minutes and then filling your jars should include the part from agar's TEK that says if it drips one drop, it's not well drained. We all know how important moisture content with WBS is. My jars were way too moist. Now I kinda use both TEK's combined, but am thinking about eliminating the simmer, ala 6T, on my next batch. Seems like it would save a lot of time when doing 40 or 50 quarts at a time. Peace,Love,Happiness and Harmony. Hippie Chick

That was written under the influence of bong hit 5 & long ago. I could have been more detailed & succinct.
Wbs with a good long soak has always worked for me. As everyone?s conditions, materials & WBS vary, so do results.
A short steep in hot water might also help, rather than a simmer. If ones WBS turns out to dry.
But, most often - excess moisture is what does one in.

How much WBS are you talking about. I had two huge stainless steel strainers full. Enough for 50 quarts. When draining mine, I even have to stir it up with a wooden spoon while draining to let the trapped water drain, thanks for that advice Diver. Peace,Love,Happiness and Harmony. Hippie Chick

I used both teks combined too. Didn't simmer, just drained.
You know those mesh bags with handles that are used for going to the beach?
I used a large one of those to drain my WBS.
The holes in the mesh were the perfect size for the water to go through, but not a single piece of WBS. Best part is I could take the handles and shake up and down forcing the water out. I think it reduced the amount of time for draining.

yea maybe. I don't even know where this one came from. Have had it for years. The strainer I had sucked, so I thought I'd try the bag out and it worked like a charm so far.
