What next?

Someone has had 2 very successful grows on 12 BRF cakes. I have more than I can eat and share with another (50g+). The question isn't what's next because I'll get the usual "casings and poo", but how to keep motivated to supply when the demand is low?
I have the supplies, time and means to restart at a new level, but would I be better off waiting until I was more excited about the hobby?
How neglecting can I be due to lack of interest and not be disappointed by the results?
Thanks to the experienced people around here that got me this far... now I need to know how they maintain...

grandmas?? The strains is a good idea... I made some half assed prints of a couple different strains from before that would be fun to try on agar.

Cyans would be great... don't have a print so I'm waiting until I happen upon one, I'm don't much want to buy more after the credit card bill I put together so far for all the fun stuff.

Do some trading now that you have some prints. Or just trade some random shit you have laying around your place.

all I have is random shit prints... I just put caps on notecards in a jar. I planned on isolating them later. Not something I would want to offer someone else

true true, spores a couple months ago and a pile of stuff from Home Depot and the thrift store isn't quite a search warrant though

Just find little things to keep you interested. Step up the difficulty a notch or two. I'm not in the party scene nor do I trip hardly at all these days myself, but I'm still very interested in the hobby. Also, I can't give them away fast enough either, so that creates a few issues for me around harvest time. Try new substrates (horse poo) or new species entirely. Good luck.

being a geek.. i tend to find ways to automate or make a process better once i have kind of plateaued. you could work on automating the whole thing, or perhaps start experimenting with substrates that nobody has tried yet.. or something. see how far you can push it and still get the shrooms to grow

If watching mushrooms go from nothing to sprouting up hasn't satified you.
Then quit now.
If you can't love the mushroom, then you shouldn't grow IMO.

automation is another good idea... but the PMP already is totally wired. I know my next grow will be in a Martha so that's probably the next step. Sure to be interesting to get it up and going.
Gnostic must have read my mind. I was so busy with school, work and final exams during my most recent fruiting. I wasn't able to "watch" anything happening, I just opened up the PMP 2 weeks after putting cakes in there and pick off the shrooms, dunked and repeated. Very not satisfying. My first grow, I sat around drinking and smoking, staring into my shroom nirvana.

My first grow. I had to fan it 4 times a day. I watched it All happen.
Colonization. Contams. Cakes. Fruits.
Best experience. Bit of a hassle , But it let me see into things a bit better.
When I walk outside, I look under logs, I laugh at spiders now, they eat all the shit that fucks with my grows, so I hate spiders less now...Still scared as FUCK,lol, but I learned to appreciate em.
Never though growing something could teach me so much, damn, was I wrong.
Watch it this time, hopefully you'll mess up, makes things more intersting.
I've noticed that recording what you do and trying to critique things makes it more intersting, Learn how to make your casings flush big time, and most importantly, go take a walk outside, into nature.
Good luck man

I thought about making a pictorial like others on Shroomery. Was planning on doing some shopping today for a digital camera? My first grow was very photogenic, the second was neglected (and produced less)

Hell yeah. Make sure you do dry weigh of the substrate...and then wet weight...
Then after your flush, weigh it and see how much water its lost..
It's called Bio-Effieceny...learn about it
I'd go for the grow log you're talking about

We each have different viewpoints and different ways of looking at everything, and this hobby is no exception to that rule. I have cased and done cakes, and am fascinated by all the things I have learned, all the challenges I have overcome, and there are hundreds of different options left to me. There are different strains (even if a cube is a cube they grow differently and have certain growing challenges and properties that differ.) For me it isn't just about having mushroms, it's about the growing and the joy it gives me, which honestly I never thought would happen. It doesn't sound like you are an "enthusiast," but each to their own....Gnostic might have given some good advice.

That's why my friend who grows is using the ol' PF Tek, and isn't automating anything. She fans herself 3-5 times a day, mists, etc.
Without that, it wouldn't feel so much as if she was growing, but more like they were being grown for her.
