I know that they aren't the "good ones", but are there any effective alkaloids?

if you searched based on my reply, you would see that the consensus is "no".

I'm not trying to be redundant. My searches have been rewarded w/insufficient data. I have found that quite a few people are confused about ID and also are confused as to which species/genus' contain active ingredients. As I understand there are 2+ varieties of red poppies which differ accordingly. Quite a few argue that California poppies are no good, but I have confirmed otherwise first hand. I have recieved too many variations of the "truth" to determine if any one person may hold sufficient knowledge.
I see no resemblance of the leaves in your hotlink to the ones I saw today...........?

Sadly no. I stopped at a friends house to take pics of the collected goods. I wasn't prepaired for my discovery. I hopped out of the car at a gas station and continued into the field immediately after spotting a few interesting red flowers. I was informed a few days ago that it was possible to find red poppies which are active (although to a lesser extent).

I need to get pics of the whole plant, but it'll be a while. It's about an hour away and we've been there 2 times in 2 days. We probably won't go back until next week. I hope that they don't mow them all down before then. They come back fast enough though huh?

Papaver rhoeas contains no morphine or codeine. It does contain a medicinal alkaloid, rhoeadine, which is said to be nacotic in very high doses.

I wouldn't recommend messing with it in doses higher than the medicinal dose though.

In Daniel Siebert's kratom guide, he mentions the petals of this poppy as a good synergistic admixture to a kratom tea.

Quote:

Certain combinations have been reported by users to be pleasant and supposedly safe. Kratom can certainly be combined with ordinary tea without risk. It has been used with a tea made from red poppy flowers (Papaver rhoeas), which itself has an extremely mild narcotic effect, and with a sedating-euphoriant tea made from ?blue lotus? (Nymphaea caerulea).

[edited to fix the name of the alkaloid]
