    #4227661 - 05/27/05 06:14 PM (18 years, 10 months ago)

i dont have a PC so i was going to use a big pot and steam my jars, btw im not using grain or anything just plain ol BRF and Verm, was wondering if a crock pot gets hot enough to boil the water to steam sterilize it good enough, or should i just stick to the stove?

Crock pots are usually used to slow cook whatever you're cooking, so I don't think they get hot enough to boil water.  I'd stick to the stove... GL bro :stoned:

I believe salt acts as a catalyst in this circumstance. It makes the water boil quicker without actually being used up in the process. Don't believe it actually changes the boiling point of the water. Just quickens the time it takes to reach boiling.

Yeah, salt makes water boil sooner.

actually, adding impurities to water depresses the boiling point due to added molecules at the water surface. Thus the observation that it simply boils sooner.
