I read it already, just didn't reply to the post. Very cool.
I also heard that production on the film adaptation of Thompson's Rum Diary is finally going ahead with Depp starring again.

Why couldn't Hunter Aford to pay for his own funeral?? Did he die broke?

As successful as he was, I'm sure Depp has WAY more money than Thompson's entire estate. And I'm sure this was mostly a way for him to just show his appreciation. They were great friends.

Wow, much love and respect goes out to Johnny....He and hunter were tight.
I wish I could attend this event, I am still sad to see hunter gone, and that will never change.
BUT it is time to celebrate the man's life...so let's get all boozed up and eat some mushies : )

Fuck yeah I also believe this was out of respect, gratitude, and appreciation for him and his family. It saved his wife a lot of money that's for sure.
On another note I wouldnt be surprised at all if Depp gave Thompson's wife a decent bit of $$ in gratitude. He must of grossed pretty good off Fear and Loathing that's for sure. A lot better than Thompson himself did I would believe.

I REALLY want to and I am pretty close. Alas, I have no car....
Sucks too, I will have to wait untill next year to meet all of you
Anyway, I KNOW I am going to see this. I have relatively somewhat a large ammount of time to come up with some cash and a way to get there. After all, it is a pretty gonzo idea to begin with..."Fear and Loathing at the HST Memorial" I think it would be in the spirit of the man to go, get really intoxicated and sneak into the woods near his house to see the cannon fire While listening to some "Mr. Tambourine Man".
Anyone with me? I am totally serious.
