 Easy Grow Guide by the Gainesville Psilocybin Society

This grow gruide is based upon years of experience cultivating mushrooms. It mainly uses PF Tek with a few extras ive picked up along the way. This guide is for Psilocybe Cubensis.
Disclaimer-
This guide is meant for informational purposes only. DO NOT attempt to cultivate hallucinogenic mushrooms. That is illegal and if you do so, I nor GPS claims any responsability for your actions and stupidity.
Materials needed -
1 10cc spore syringe
1 bag of Long Grain Brown Rice (BRF)(available at any grocery store)
1 bag of Horicultural Vermiculate (Lowes, Wal-mart, Home depot)
1 bag of Perlite (Lowes, Wal-mart, Home Depot)
12 1/2 pint wide mouth canning jar lids
12 1/2 pint wide mouth canning jars (be sure the top of the jar is wider than any other part. Wide-mouth or tapered)(wal-mart, most grocery stores)
1 styrofoam cooler able to fit 12 jars
1 coffee grinder
1 hammer and small nail
1 10 gallon aquarium with lid (Wal-mart, Pet Store)
1 20watt (or higher) flourescent bulb and fixture
1 electrical timer
1 digital thermometer/humidity gauge(wal-mart, target, gardening store)
1 spray bottle of antibacterial lysol
1 roll of Syran wrap
1 roll of aluminum foil
1 roll Masking or Duck Tape
1 roll of paper towels
1 pair of rubber gloves (the big yellow ones)
1 bottle of 70% or higher Isopropyl Alcohol(Rubbing alcohol)
1 bottle of H2O2 (Hydrogen Peroxide)
1 gallon of natural spring water
All of these items can be acquired from 2 or 3 stores for around $150 with the exception of the spore syringe. You most likely have some of these things already though.
Preparing the jars -
Take your hammer and small nail and hammer 4 small holes into the lid of each jar. The holes should be as symmetrical as you can possibly get them and be as near to the edge of the lid as possible.
Mixing the substrate -
For 12 1/2pint jars-
First ground up 3 cups of Brown Rice in your coffee grinder.
Get a large mixing bowl and mix together EXACTLY 3 cups of BRF with EXACTLY 8 cups of vermiculate. Stir the mixture very well. Then add 3 cups of natural spring water and stir until the whole mix is evenly wet. Fill each jar 3/4 of the way with the medium. Pack it in very slightly, you dont want to make it too thick in the jar so the mycelium can grow faster. Fill the jar the rest of the way with a layer of dry vermiculate to prevent contaminants from getting into the cake. Place the lids on the jars, leave them a little bit loose.
For Individual Jars-
Follow the above procedure. Use 2/3 cup vermiculate, 1/4 cup BRF, and 1/4 cup natural spring water per jar.
Sterilization -
Get a big pot and lay a rag even along the bottom of it. Wrap the tops of your jars with tin foil as tight as you can and place them in the pot right side up. Fill the pot up with water about half way up the jars. Bring water to a boil, turn the heat down so the water is at a boiling point that isnt spitting water into the jars, and put a lid on the pot. Be careful not to let any water get into the jars as this will upset the exact mixture you put in them earlier. Let the water boil for at least 45min (I always did it for an 1hr 15min). When you turn off the stove, leave the lid on the pot and the foil on the jars until the jars cool (Usually about 4-5 hours). At this point take your spore syringe out of the refridgerator and place it on the counter near your workstation (still in its sterile bag) so the spores can warm up to room temperature. Also spray lysol on a paper towel and wipe down the inside of your cooler
inoculation -
Once your sterilized jars have cooled you are ready to inoculate. First things first, turn off the ac, heat, or fan. Wipe down all surfaces in your work area with lysol. Preheat your oven to about 150 degrees. Once the oven is heated up nuke your whole kitchen with lysol. When you open the oven it will create an updraft that allows no air flow to come downwards. Using the open oven door or one of the oven trays as your workspace will prevent contaminants from falling on your workspace. Now get out your styrofoam cooler, rubber gloves, and isopropyl alcohol. Place the cooler next to your oven. Open your oven then put on the rubber gloves. Cup your hand and pour a small amount of alcohol in one hand and rub your hands together as if you were washing them. The alcohol will evaporate within a few seconds. Remove your jars from the pot and place them on the oven door but do not remove the foil yet. Very carefully remove the syringe from its bag but leave the needle cap on. Shake the syringe to mix up the spore water evenly. DO ALL THE REST OF THE INSTRUCTIONS OVER THE UPDRAFT OF THE OVEN!!! Remove the foil from your jars and tighten the lids. Remove the needle cap from your syringe. Stick the needle in one of your jar's holes with the open angle facing the glass. Stick the needle as far down as possible, press the tip against the glass and eject 1/4cc into each hole. Do this as quickly as possible to every hole of every jar. Most syringes are roughly 10ccs. If you are innoculating 12 jars use a little less than 1cc per jar to inoculate all 12 jars with 1 syringe. Immediately after you have inoculated all the jars, carefully place them into your cooler. YOUR DONE! If you do all of these steps and dont try to take shortcuts, you will not get ANY contamination!!
Colonization -
Optimally you would like to keep your cooler at 86 degrees. If you go below that, its ok, colonization just wont be as fast. Exceeding 86 is a bad idea. An easy way to do this is acquire a reptile heating pad and fold a towel into 3 or 4 layers. Put the towel inbetween the heating pad and the cooler and set the pad on the lowest setting. After 3-5 days the spores will germinate and you will see the first signs of mycelial growth. Within 2 weeks the cakes should be mostly colonized. If no mycelial growth is seen in one of the jars after 2 weeks, throw it out. If you see any color of fungus other than white or dull yellow you likely have contamination which means you skipped or fucked up one or more of the steps earlier. If a jar gets contaminated, IMMEDIATELY remove it from the cooler and throw it out. Once the mycelium gets the sides completely colonized growth tends to slow when trying to colonize the bottom. At this point you may turn your jars upside down and tap them a few times to get the bottom of the medium about 1/4 of an inch from the bottom of the jar. This will speed up the end of the colonization. Leave your jars upside down but prop them up on something sterile so that all 4 holes are still exposed and able to airate. (Wide popsicle sticks work well.) During the last few days of colonization you should set up your terrarium. Remember that all 12 of your jars will never be ready to be birthed on the same day. Usually they will span out over a period of about a week.
Setting up the terrarium -
The first thing you need to do is make an airtight lid. The best way to do this is to go to home depot and get them to cut you a piece of plexiglass thats fits over the screen on the lid and seal it with psilicon glue. In this case it is much easier to place a layer of syran wrap over the lid and duck tape it to the edges. Also put a layer of syran wrap tightly on the underside of the lid so when you place the lid on no air can travel through the connection from the lid to the terarrium. When using the syran wrap lid, i like to sit a couple of phone books on top of the lid to make sure its all the way down. Spray the inside of your terrarium with lysol, and wipe it down with a lysol soaked paper towel then with a dry paper towel. If you are using lysol with bleach be sure that there are NO bleach fumes left in the terrarium before proceeding as this will be detremental for the mycelium. An easy way to get bleach fumes out is to wipe the walls of the terrarium with a paper towel moistened with tap water then a dry paper towel. Do this over and over until there are no bleach fumes left. Mount your digital temp/humidity gauge in the inside middle of the glass on the backside of your terrarium. Open your perlite and pour a 2 inch layer into the bottom of the terrarium. (Perlite makes a sort of dust when pouring it. This stuff is nasty, be careful not to inhale it.) Pour your natural spring water into a large cup and add about 3 capfulls of H202. Very slowly and carefully, pour this mixture into the perlite until the water level reaches about 3/4 of an inch. Once you reach 3/4 of an inch let the mixture sit and close your lid. If you need to refill your cup DO NOT put anymore H2O2 in the water. The water level will drop slightly after about an hour as the dry pourous perlite soaks up some of the water and becomes saturated. Replenish the water level to 3/4 of an inch. (You may need to add water every week or so). Humidity should stabilize between 92% and 98% (perfect). Your temp should be between 74 and 77 degrees inside your terrarium.
Birthing your cakes -
At this stage something called Dunk-Tek is the best possible thing to do before placing your cakes into the terrarium, but you can just put your cakes directly into the terrarium if desired. Get a container slightly larger than the cake and wash it thouroughly. Fill half way with natural spring water, place the cake in it (placing the cake in should displace enough water so that the cake is completely submerged, if not add more water). Put an airtight lid on the container and put it in the fridge for 12 hours. Take the cake out and let it drain for about 30 seconds. With a dry, multilayered paper towel gently pat off the mycelium, DO NOT RUB IT! Place your cake in the terrarium on top of a jar lid with the rubber seal facing down. Remember that touching your cake will make it fruit less, so wear your STERILIZED(with alcohol) rubber gloves during this whole procedure. After each flush your cake has, go through the dunk-tek method again. You can even get away with doing it when there are small pins on a cake, I would recommend only dunking for about 8 hours if there are pins though.
Fruiting -
There's only 2 things left to do now. Set up your lighting and wait. Set up your flourecent light at least 2 feet away from the terrarium, and set your timer for 12 hours on, 12 hours off. Do not worry if the moisture on the inside of the glass closest to your light goes away, that always happens. The other 3 walls will still be very wet, and your humidity should stay stabilized. Fan out your terrarium twice a day. I would do it when the light goes on, and when the light goes off, so that you have a consistent schedule. For the first week the cakes will just get really fluffy. This is because the mycelium of Psilocybe Cubensis is a rizomorphic myceliem and it needs to do this before producing fruits. After the cake is nice and fluffy white, you will notice little pins starting to come out. After another week they will be ready for harvest. The best time to harvest a mushroom is as soon as the partial veil breaks away from the cap. This is the point at which psilocybin production begins to slow down therefore growing the mushrooms larger is just wasting nutrients that future mushrooms could have used.

I am not related to the shroom wizard. I wrote this so that users could read a full tech including some of the easiest methods to get better flushes such as Dunk-Tek and perlite humidification, and so they wouldnt have to read the babbling if they were to read the MMGG for example.

i disagree. one of the shroomery's biggest detractions is that although there is a lot of awesome information, very little of it is actually easy to find and put together for a first-timer. this tek would have saved ME hours/days of looking had i used it instead of the "beginner's teks" here.
