Farmers in a spin over mushrooms

Farmers in a spin over mushrooms
Law could send them to court over magic fungi

Landowners in Beds could face a trip to court under 'absurd' laws surrounding magic mushrooms says a major countryside group.

Due to a legal loophole under the new Drugs Act farmers and landowners could be committing a crime if the hallucinogenic fungus grows on their property.

The Country Land and business Association (CLA) says the new legislation was rushed through Parliament and will be urging the new government to introduce clear regulations.

CLA Bedfordshire branch chairman Andrew Pym, from Everton, said: "The problem is if you know it's on your land but you don't go and destroy it, makes it an offence, which is absurd.

"It means you would have to destroy wildlife even if it's sitting there doing no harm. It's bureaucratic nonsense."

Section 21 of the new Drugs Act was introduced to make the possession and sale of magic mushrooms ? now a class A drug ? illegal.

Formerly, under the 1971 Misuse of Drugs Act it was only illegal to possess the mushrooms' hallucinogenic chemicals psilocin and psilocybin.

Before the last Parliament was suspended, Home Office minister Caroline Flint confirmed the new law needed clarifying.

This is an attempt by the man to make farmers use anti-fungals in the feed.

Its bull shit (no pun intended) that could mess up wildlife.

Who cares if we mess up nature... people are at risk of a mind opening experience here folks... I think we have bigger issues than the health of the planet. Can you imagine what would happen if somebody actually ate one of these mushrooms? I shudder at the thought...

Hallucinogenic mushroom use has only been happening for tens of thousands of years and has helped shape the way we are today. Let's try to eliminate this problem while it's still in it's infancy.

That is pu8re stupidity. What about the tens of thouisands of patches of psilocybe cyanescens., and a few other woodchip magic shrooms in mostly public places and in city parks, etc. They are simply making stink where they shoud not.
