HELP IDENTIFY PLEASE
    #4218721 - 05/25/05 04:17 PM (12 years, 3 months ago)

Can Someone please help me identify these? P. Cyanascens perhaps?

The stalk doesn't seems as thick as the other pictures I have seen and when I picked or squeezed them there is no "bluing" that I have heared about. Any ideas?

II. Accurate mushroom descriptions

It is critical that you describe mushrooms fully and accurately in order to get a proper identification.

A good picture of the mushrooms is invaluable.

Along with the pictures (if possible), please include the following:

a. Habitat (where [state/province/country] and what does it grow on)
b. Characteristics of the gills (color, attached/not, gills/pores, etc)
c. Measurements of cap and stem.
d. Characteristics of the stem (color, texture, hollow/solid, thin/thick, etc)
e. Characteristics of the cap (color, texture, conical/spherical, convex/concave, etc)
f. Spore print color (very important!)
g. Color that the mushroom bruises
h. Scent of mushroom

they look alot like old Marasmius oreades (2). we need more info to be sure though, they are definitely not psilocybes, if that's all you're wondering...

I'll try to be a little more detailed here.
a. found eastern Washington State, in damp old growth grass.
b. gills are spaces pretty far apart on the bigger mushrooms. Darker around the edge, lighter towards the center. I don't think that the gills are attached to the stem, but I'm not really sure what that means.
c. Cap diameter is anywhere from 3/4 inch to 1 1/2 inch. stems are about 3-4 inches long and about 1/8" diameter.

d. Stems are white and fibery.
e. caps are mostly flat but very wavy, not cone shaped except the very little ones. Light brown, pretty consistent coloring across the cap.
f. I don't know what I spore print is, I'm only just now learning.
g. Didn't bruise much at all as far as I cant tell.
h. mushrooms stink quite a bit.

I can tell you M. oreades is very common in eastern WA .

they have very tough stems compared to most other mushrooms, which is what I assume you mean by fibery.

the spores should be white if they're M. oreades, take a print if you find some fresh ones.

I'm with DH. Those look like dried out Marasmius oreades, an incredibly common lawn mushroom.

They are edible (if not contaminated with external poisons like weed killer) and not active.

Happy mushrooming!
