Study: NFL making steps toward "diversity"
    #4216229 - 05/24/05 08:48 PM (18 years, 10 months ago)

ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) -- Racial diversity within NFL coaching staffs and front offices is improving while its players' union continued to excel, according to a University of Central Florida study.

Richard Lapchick of UCF's Institute for Diversity and Ethics in Sport gave the NFL grades of B for race and a D-plus for gender, although the league has a higher percentage of woman executives at the very top than the other major men's sports leagues. Two years ago, those grades were, B-minus and D-minus.

The NFLPA maintained A-pluses for race and gender, the best among the professional players unions reviewed. Almost two-thirds of the positions on the NFLPA's board were occupied by blacks, led by executive director Gene Upshaw.

WTF? So if they were 100% black, they would get an A++? lol

That figure is in line with the racial makeup of league's players, 69 percent of whom are black.

The study was released Tuesday.

In 2002, the NFL enacted a policy requiring teams searching for a head coach to interview at least one minority candidate. The next year the Detroit Lions were fined $200,000 for failing to comply before hiring Steve Mariucci.

If the league is 69% black, then a minority candadate would be white.

At the time there were two black head coaches. There are now six.

The NFL got an A-plus at the assistant coach level.

Last season, 30 percent of the league's assistants were black, with 12 black coordinators. Three teams had women serving as president/chief executive officer. At 9 percent, that led pro sports.

So now we are scrutinizing a sport that is disproportionately black (and maybe for good reason) and saying that we need to make it mandatory that more blacks replace whites? Political correctness at its worst.

It is absolutely absurd, and there is no rationalization for it.

That is of course, unless you concede that it is acceptable to be racist against whites.

The sad part about this is that the majority of brainwashed people believe the above, and the enlightened that don't are chastised as racist bigots. It is a very clever scheme that the liberals have established.

I am angry about the lack of Asians coaching in the NFL.

I also think that white people are under represented among NFL players.

I think transsexuals are severely lacking in the NFL. The NFL should fine itself $600 billion for not including enough people who've had their penises turned into vaginas.

And what about Native Americans? What about Arabs? Are blacks now the only other race besides whites?

I am a white 5'7 140 pd. white male. I feel as if my race is severely under-represented amongst NFL players. I demand that I immediately be made an NFL linebacker for a major team.

One day later.....

(AP) - Randalflagg was killed on his first play in the NFL as a linebacker. He collided with a 6'4 250 pd. black guy from the other team. He suffered massive trauma to his head and body as he flew thirty feet through the air.

The NFL commissioner was quoted as saying, "This is a tragic day, but we will continue to be devoted to diversity - at any cost".

Actually one of the best players in hockey is black. But race only seems to matter in this fucked up country.

I refer the people who come up with these little polls and surveys and rules to the general comment most heard when confronted with such things "Who the fuck cares?"

Igilna? He looks half and half. But the crackers still own hockey.

Why can't people get it through their heads that diversity doesn't matter, wether it be sports, jobs, anything. If your better qualified for something then you should be doing it.

I bet this institute gets its funding by newspapers or media outlets. I see no other point for it other than to provide a source for lame news articles. Like the NFL would change anything if they gave em an F.

well they do require you interview 1 black guy for head coach.

Which is BULLSHIT.

You want a head coach? Chances are, you know WHO you want as head coach already -- it's not really a free for all 'come and get it!' position that you apply for. Coaches are more often than not PURSUED by teams that want them.

Yet, YOU MUST interview a minority. Even if you know full well that you want oh, Steve Mariucci, and he jumps all over it, and it's cased closed.. you still have to interview some minority, just to make things look good.
