faq man, f-a-motherfucking-q.. the shroomery is the most complete guide to cultivation and probably identification on the net, especially with the very smart mycologists who post here... abuse that shit, but at the same time, do your homework first.

no, not all mushrooms are hallucinogenic, but many are. this very website has lists for pretty much every part of the world.. lists out every active mushroom known to grow in every US state I know, and probably on every continent. abuse that motherfuckin shit nahsayin..

in before close ^_^_^

Unfortunately there are more poisonous than active species out there.. Many mushrooms are of unknown edibility. You can't really assume anything about a random find. The only way to know is to make an ID to species which requires research, study, and in a lot of cases is not possible without the aid of a mycologist.

I have found this site to be a great place for identifying mushrooms ( mainly non-active ) www.mykoweb.com and don't pass up the information found on this great site you are currently visiting. Mykoweb is a Californian species site but I believe that a lot of the mushrooms found in California can also be found elsewhere. It could take about a bloody fortnight to sort through every mushroom on the site though. Hope you like it, I seem to reccomend it a lot. have a good one! :headbang:

No there are not. There are now more than 190 known species of mushrooms belonging to 13 families which contain psilocine/psilocybine and other trytamine alkaloids.

As for deadly poisonous shrooms, there are three deadly Amanitas., three deadly Galerina's, and One Conocybe filaris.

Then there are numerous muscarine mushrooms and a few other which are deadly species.

So there are more psilocybian mushrooms then there are deadly dangerous poisonous shrooms in the world.

And to protect yourself, I always tell pickers who are seeking magic shrooms to avoid any white gilled shrooms because of their macroscopic association with the deadly Amanitas and to avoid the orange colored gills of Gyms which could resemble Galerinas or the deadly Cnocybe.

Avoid the boletes because they have a porous bottom under their caps instead of gills (There are several deadly bluing boletus mushrooms). Follow those directions and only look for blacked spored shrooms in manure or chocolate to purple brown spored shrooms in lawns, woodchips, or manure.

mj: i consider false morels deadly. tho not immediately so.
but he did not say deadly. he said "poisonous"

inocybes, cortinarius, hypholoma, conocybes, paxillus
gyromitra, coprinus, clitocybes, Hygrophorosis, lactarius
gomphus, clorophyllum, leukocoprinus, boletus, scleroderma

and many more, just a few genus' that contain poisonous mushrooms.
just because its not a bycyclic octopeptide doesnt mean it isnt potentially fatal. like muscarine. generally survivable. but there have been deaths. immagine somebody eating a half dry oz of red staining inocybe.
i would say they would probably die. but ive eaten at least that much in pan subbs. (and felt dead, but thats another tale)

To my knowledge there are no deadly poisonous mushrooms with pores.

Yeah, it would be too much to ask people to READ a book or two on mushrooms, it's just much easier to make up your OWN mythology as to what mushrooms are and aren't.
