question bout shitake spawn
    #4215056 - 05/24/05 06:27 PM (13 years, 6 months ago)

so i have three 1/2gals i spawned awhile ago with shitake myc.. they took awhile to colonize but it eventually worked... i shook 2 of them to see what would happen about 2 or 3 days ago... the myc on the grain seems OK but it hasnt gotten white again... can i spawn with it now or should i wait till it turns all white again?
thanks

if you gotta shake, you gotta wait (if you want it to keep eating) - of course, the last thing you do before spawning is shake to break it all up for pouring.... so i suppose the answer is that it's your call.

by shaking, you redistribute any contams previously contained among the rest, so i'd wait, personally, if i were you and i'd already shaken them, for my own relaxation. it's generally a good idea to see it healthy and happy before spawning. if colonisation was delayed, it may not be entirely contam free, unfortunately.

2 hours should be a good amount of time, you could prolly get away with less but why chances it.
