any electricians out there?
    #4213746 - 05/24/05 10:51 AM (18 years, 10 months ago)

hehe. because im super awesome i bought some blue LEDs a while back for my car. After hearing mushies can grow best in blue light, i thought, why not? Im gonna try to install them in the lid of my TIT

problem is powering them. Boyfriend tells me to go get 2 6-volt lantern batteries and create something called a "parallel circuit". Apparently he knows thats the thing to do but not really how to do it  :dancing:. SO if anyone knows how to do this or even a better way (im sure there is one bwahaha) that would be uber appreciated

12 volt converter. plugs into your wall outlet and convert current to 12 volt. if you purchase them for your car, 12 volts should be the ticket.

if they run off of 12v, goto radioshack and get a 12v power inverter that plugs into the wall. i would get one with a rating of atleast 1 amp (12watts)
then hook it up just as you would in your car.

yeah any good hardware store should have them, even wallyworld. make sure they are 12 volt though. will need to wire them in a series and then to the converter depending on what you get. should be a simple plug.

Yeah, or just hookem up to a 12 volt battery, just like the pic shows, only use 12 instead of 9.

since you have all the same lights they should all take the same amount of power. in a parellel circuit, if on light is requiring less power, it will go to that light, dimming the other lights ahead of it, cause electricity takes the least line of resistance.

To run batteries in parallel all you have to do is take the + of one battery to the + of the next battery then take the - of one battery to the - of the next battery than hook up the ligh off oone of the batteries. For a series circuit you put + from one to the - of the other.

I forgot parrallel doesn't raise the voltage but does raise the amps, series is what rasies voltage.

wired in a series, just like outlets in your house. from power source to first light, second, etc. last light ends the circuit. pos to pos neg to neg.
wasn't talking about using a battery. a converter from your 115v outlet to 12v. sorry for any mix up there
peace

correct... minus the resistor and minus the 9v battery

if her LEDs are meant to take ANYTHING besides straight 12v and she is giving them ANYTHING besides 12v.. then yes she will need to use some type of resistor, but that varies on the number of LEDs, their wattage, and the voltage they need.

yea.. but she specifically said they were for her car. thus series is not the way to go, parallel is what she wants, especially if she wants all of them to see 12v

well if you know how to hook them up to a car, get that 12v adapter, cut the little connector off the end.. and you have 2 wires with 12v on them. treat it just like it were your car battery.
the only thing that might be helpful is knowing how much power those lights need. is the an amp or watt rating on them?

you need to get the AC adapter to have atleast as much amperage/wattage as your lights require (all lights added together)
