Printing material.
    #4193572 - 05/18/05 11:35 PM (18 years, 10 months ago)

This was posted by SoopaX in the beginning cultivation. As I was to impatient to wait for either him or a mod to post it here i am going to post his question here.

I have always made my spore prints with aluminum foil and I have never purchased one from a vendor (although ralphster may have dropped me a few from time to time ). What is the most typical material for a vendor to sell prints on? Wax paper? Alum foil? computer paper? Index cards? Glass Slides?

So how about it Sponors, what do you prefer to print on, and what do you print on for what you sell?

Not exactly what i was wondering. I was asking for someone who is interested in what the most commonly used material is. I already use foil and am very happy with it. Just curious what the vendors prefer. I dont exactly want to buy a print from every vendor just to see what they put them on.

Check out a bunch of vendor's sites...Might find something...

I saw someone use thick-like paper, I think it was laminated.

They used it in some glove box tek, showed you how to mass-produce spore printing...

You will not get much in the way of answers from the USA vendors.

Think about YOUR QUESTION.

Then, ponder sponsor/vendors here inside the good old USA ought not be making P. Cube spore prints.

Glass "slides" are great, except a PITA to tape up & mail. Best material that I am aware of (for individualy made) high end collector prints (for mailing)is 3 to 5 mil laminating plastic, once set & dry, sealed with an impulse sealer.

The advantage being, they are water/air proof & you can plainly see what you are working with.

For MASS print production in large commercial batches, 40 lb type kraft or  BUTCHER PAPER is effective. On rolls & with a roll cutter - you can pull out & cut to any length, with ease.

The disadvantage being, not waterproof, must be taped closed & you cannot see what you are to work with, until you open it.

Sadly, IMHO....it is not suitable. It sticks to itself & is very very flimsy, as it is less than a 1/2 mil thick.

press n seal is a bitch to handle... definitely not suitable for printwork... for a while i was using laminating sheets, the kind that go into the heat activated laminator, either ID card size or photo size... they worked nice, but static electricity became a problem in colder weather.

i like index cards the best

If a flowhood area is equipted with a Simco Airostat (or simular ionizer), static electricity isn't a problem on plastic laminate sheets.

Haaaahaaaa.  Agar I think you take things to the extreme and I mean that as a compliment. While I'm sure that works great it is not practical for most of us.  :tongue2:
