It would be interesting to cut an inch thick open cell sponge to fit snugly inside the liquids surface in a quart jar of LC, as a platform for primordia to form on.

I've already tried this, in fact! Alas, mycelium growth wasn't near enough to begin pinning, or even enough to really determine whether it had penetrated the sponge. Hopefully your air exchange technique will prove the missing piece of the puzzle.

I think you will need a magnetic stir plate for optimal tests.

Yep, I have one. Were you stirring constantly, or once or twice a day? Can you make a rough estimate of the RPM you were using? Obviously too high, particularly toward the end, would cause mycelium fragmentation detrimental to fruiting (although obviously beneficial for someone looking to make an LC syringe).

Also, thanks for your help. I hadn't expected the luxury of having this much prior work done for me. It's reassuring to think I won't be starting from scratch.

Awesome work as always!

What's your LC recipe by the by?
