Quart Jars / Finch Seed compost
    #421072 -

Requesting a reply from anyone who has used quart jars (wide mouth) with finch seed as bulk substrate:

My question is, does the resulting spawn, fully colonized, come out of the jars somewhat readily? Even the ones that say "wide mouth", the mouth is not as wide as the body of the jar, as is the case with half pints and so on - does the spawn not form a pretty solid cake like innoculation on half pints? Does it not simply stay stuck in the jars?

Anyone with experience in this particular area, replies and knowledge would be appreciated, thanks!

This is not advanced by any means.

standard wide mouth 1/2 pt or 1pt jars have wider mouths than base.
If your seed/cake is stuck when fully colonized, just shake gently, but my guess is that your substrate was too wet.

Cantara,
If you plan to case the grain, there is nothing wrong with digging that shit out with a sterile spoon. The mycelium should make a fairly tight network and NO the grain won't just fall out unless you shake the shit out of it.... The quarts will be fine...just dig it out (it won't be difficult), spread it out in the casing tray and case.
