Is it essential to pc a jar that will be used for a liquid culture?

filling the jar with 4ml of kar, 96 of water - can i just boil this for a few hours and then put 1-2cc's liquid spores in?

i'm assuming this would be fine, i'd just be sterilizing the water and karo...

I'm pretty sure that won't work. I've heard of a few successes with a microwave, but if you want to be 100% sure its sterilized, you need to PC it.

-I am a newb-

I've had 2 jars of LC used completely.. and 4 going now. I only boiled them. No problems so far. But I am a newb... Take it for what its worth.

I have it in my Tit(tub in tub) incubator. It's at 83.5-84 degrees. Uh.. hmm. I had one LC using honeywater and a B+ strain that I used about 3 weeks later. But the growth in those jars was a bit slower than when it was fresh. Ask someone more experienced about how long it stays good. I really don't have enough personal experience to know for sure.

Hope that helps.

LC's can stay good in the fridge for months. They usually are colonized and ready to use in about two weeks, give or take a few day's, like everything in this hobby. Honey works, light Karo works, but I like malt extract and dextrose. Good Luck.

Yes. I switched to karo as well. I got lucky at first.. but I started having problems with the honey carmelizing. Karo is much better with heat(and freezing for that matter... not that you will be freezing it) .. and also you can see through it.

I just wanted to start using my LC .. so once I had a few nickle sized balls of myc I sucked them out(About 1 week later). I left a bit in there so it would keep growing. It did... and I had a lot more to use later. But agar.. and other people that know more than I do say to wait a bit longer.

I think if you wait like they say to that the LC will work that much faster. It makes sense that if you have a lot more myc going into each jar that it will colonize faster.

I use the microwave all the time, just be sure to add more water at the start because it will boil off and concentrate the sugar. Best make up the 4% solution 1/2 way in the jar and mark it with a pen. Then add water 3/4 way and boil it back down to 1/2
