Hydrapod worth $185

Does anyone know if the Hydrapod is worth the $185 price tag? Being able to go 2 weeks without any maintenance would be great if it actually works.

As far as materials and labor goes. yes its worth it.
It does produce good flushes on cakes. You can leave it for some time.
But in my eyes its not really worth it. If you have the know how you can get far greater numbers of mushrooms for less, but it takes more work. If your a lazy newbie its a great system, if your more advanced I wouldn't spend the money.
Don't beleive everything you know.

No way is it worth it.
You can build a system that will produce just as many shrooms for, ooh about $10: a transluscent storage bin with some perlite for humidity. Works brilliantly. If the pod really does manage to squeeze out a few % extra then big deal - just innoculation a few extra jars.
The thing doesn't even keep the right temps or produce light!
The way I see it is if you are justifiably lazy and don't want to progress with the subject beyond cakes then why spend that sort of wedge when you can get the shrooms you want for virtually nothing? If you do want to go more advanced & get bigger yeilds then get into casing grain or dung or straw. All they require is a bit of know-how and effort and IME don't need ANY humdification at all.
If you want to get all technical then spend your dosh on an ultrasonic humidifier - at least it's grow with your interest. But if my honest opinion is just keep it basic and concentrate on learning the subject.

"Does anyone know if the Hydrapod is worth the $185 price tag? "
that is all in the eyes of the beholder... many people pay 20$ for mdma pills despite the fact they are truly "worth" pennies.
i might consider getting one of those if i had alot of money and if it regulated temp...
but yes, you can create your own grow chamber for MUCH cheaper....

For the guys living off collecting pop bottles and cans, yeah it probably ain't worth it.
For the folks who enjoy spending time working on their projects, (certainly nothing wrong with that) it probably ain't worth it. Although if they are also gadget freaks, I don't see how they can resist... :3)
For the folks who have the spare change and enjoy not having to fuss over their projects, it IS worth it.

I am not trying to be mean here, but the hydrapod flushes i've seen so far have not impressed me at all.
Honestly, i've had better flushes in my early days using 2L pop bottles bottomed with pearlite and fitted with a small $6 fish pump.
I respect the work that has gone into the pod, but unfortunately I do not share the optimism for the results
Anyways, im not trying to start another flame thread here, just putting in my 2 cents.

Unibomber- did you see the pictures from themd9?
I can speak from my personal experience with my hydra-pod and its working real good for me. I feel that it's worth the money I paid for it. I already got my monies worth on the first round and am enjoying the second round already. It does alot more than what everyone sees about it - it rehydrates the cakes and feeds water to the flushes so they do good - much better than perlite and rubbermaid. I know cause I have done my own share of perlite set ups. If I had a camera then I would take pictures and post them so you could see that it works better than the perlite teks do. here's some perlite pictures from the gallery -
maybe you guys don't see a diference between them - but I do.

Crestone, I have a question. Does Mcmann suggest to place the cakes in the pod before seeing in-vitro pins or after?

you should email him - he answers his emails real fast and will answer just about anything if you ask him the right way. He answered my questions I had before I bought my hydra-pod from him - while he knew that I was making my own clone pod. I think thats pretty decent of him to do. after all - he didn't have to. you got me curious now so I will ask him for you - he knows me pretty good by now. ;) I'll let you know.

My monkeys uncle has been considering buying a hydro-pod...they seem very easy and with my monkeys uncle busy work schedule he rarely is home. Automation is the key for him and to be honest with you this monkey just sits around and smokes monkey herb when he is home so building a system like that just seems to be time consuming. Anywho...he remembers hearing about a hydro-pod discount for shroomery members awhile back...is this still going on with the all bullshit thats gone down?

Well that's cool, it should speed things up considerably. Waiting for those pins to show in the jar can take forever.

Im sorry, but im not impressed by those pictures at all.
As I said, I have had better results from a 2L bottle.
(1 cake per bottle ofcourse, still, each cake had more, and larger mushrooms)
And that only cost me about $1.29 cdn at the time, but can be counted as free as I actuallty drank the pop.
Those cakes on perlite look pretty bad.. A little too bad if you ask me.. But whatever.
Point is, given the choice, I, personally would go with the 2L pop bottle as I am yet to see pictures of flushes better than my 2L pop flushes ..
I think at least 10 shroomery people have these things now. If it's so impressive, why havn't i seen any impressive flushes posted yet? That just makes me think.. And why aren't there actual growing pics on the pod's website? That makes me think more.
Whatever..

Aren't you leaving out a few other issues? You're the guy that was actually boasting about the FARTY DALLAR GROW SYSTEM in that other thread, aren't you?
Please, do tell us all about it. Ehhh, yeah "a transluscent storage bin with some perlite for humidity" heheh. Brilliant, just brilliant.
Somebody roll me a phatty!

not worth 185 at all, for one tenth of that you can make one just as good or better from one trip to home depot or walmart.

It's all according to what you want.
I personally go away on business trips for several days at a time and having the POD makes that very easy. No fanning/misting etc.. Aside from making sure the room temperature stays fairly steady for fruiting, it really is maintinence free...
If you have that type of need, and the extra money to blow I'd highly recommend one.
But don't listen to me, I'm just a sock puppet for the evil corporate powers.. =) LOL

Here is my 40$ Grow system
1) 21 Gallon Bin from Kmart ----------------------------- 2.99
2) Bag of perlite from scottys --------------------------- 3.19
3) Roll of saran wrap -------------------------------------1.99
4) Fish tank pump and hoses --------------------------22.00
5) 20W Florescent lamp -------------------------------- 8.00
6) Timer -------------------------------------------------- 8.00
_______________________________________________
Total 46.17
It is fully automatic, goes from cake / casing to pin in 4-8 days. required no mmisting or fanning, and gets signifigantly larger yields than the hydro pod.
