Casing question and a G2G transfer question
    #4205395 - 05/21/05 11:52 PM (18 years, 10 months ago)

I have made a casing mix with 50% coco 50% verm then I had to had some peat moss to soak up some excess water in there and I have baked it in the oven on 400 for an hour and a half in an aluminum baking pan covered tightly with foil. Now I have done this baking thing before with 50/50 mix purchased from walliworld and am having some success(it hasn't pinned yet but coming along quite nicely) my casing is a little on the moist side so the moisture loss I don't think will be a problem or am I just getting lucky.I am also PCing some cracked corn jars and was wondering if I could cut a fully colonized pf cake and do a kind of G2G transfer or something like that. thanks for any help or replies

Yes you can use a colonized cake to transfer to grain. Break it up into small pieces, even grate with a cheese grater to get more inoculating points. You can use any colonized substrate. I just did my first G2G. Transferred 2 quarts to 30 quarts and 6 1/2 gallon jars. Did this 5 days ago and growth is going along great.

No contams yet. Guess my glove box passed it's first real test. Going to transfer a few colonized grains to some LC tomorrow. Good Luck.
