My friend's car was towed away with mhis lovely yard-sale bought "presto" cooker in the trunk and he's been having to make do with a WMart PC:( that is selfregulating only up to !0 p.s.i. I gave him a lovely P. Trop print that Una gave me and he was wondering if he should hold off on these beauties until another pressure cooker can be aquired or can he (SAFELY) sterlise his finch seed at only 10psi? -like if that was possible it wouldn't be recommended for 15- still his fingers are crossed...

You could pc for a much longer time, however I would reccomend waiting till you get your car back.. too long and you would could "cook" the grain too much. where was it towed to? why wouldn't you get it back asap for other reasons (paying daily storage fee)? either way, good luck

pc'ing at 10 psi wont allow the temps to reach 250 degrees, even if you pc for "a really long time". i think 10 psi is 240 degrees... but im at school so i dont have my canner instructions or anything else in front of me to double check. i just wanted to say pc'ing for a longer amt of time at 10psi isnt the equivalent of pc'ing at 15psi for the adequate amt of time... dont know if you should hold off or not, seems like its your call (id wait- i wont can anything at the improper psi, but im paranoid about canning foods like that).

It's cool. He has a tiny 8qt model now. His car was towed by: Patrick Schriver's Tasteful Tune in Anytown, Antartica He can't get it because ice froze up the roads;). Guess he won't have to wait after all . Thanks people.
