Found pretty shoom in front yard! Need Ident.
    #4204307 - 05/21/05 07:30 PM (12 years, 6 months ago)

I found this in the grass while mowing. From the top I could have sworn I had just spotted a P. Cubensis. But the gills were a beautiful shade of pink. Words can't desribe for amazing the gills look. Perfect lines with an amazing pink color. My camera couldn't really capture the true color. It looks more like white in the photo. I know it's probably poisonous but i'd like to get a little info on it.

It does not bruise and it was found next to another of the same size. (Not collected). Looks identical to P. Cubensis other than the pink gills.

I live in Northern Florida and it hasn't rained in weeks. Average daily highs around 85F.

Florida? Northern? It just rained today... going hunting monday.
What part of north florida?

I've found P. Cubensis with whitish-pinkish-purplish gills, i think it just means it's inactive.

So it goes.

NO you did not find P. Cubensis with whitish pinkish gills. You found a completely different mushroom which could possibly kill you.

It was the first flush and they were P. Cubensis, mind you it was like 3 months ago, but I'm pretty sure they had a pinkish/purplish tint to the grey.

So it goes.

Cultivated cubes often come up with "white" gills. Some may percieve this as a pinkish tint.
It will only be found in cultivated strains, they are sterile (cannot produce young, or in this case, spores).

Re: Unkle Luke:
Maybe Volvariella speciosa spore print will be salmon (that's a brownish pink) if it is.

That's an Agaricus.

You need to tell us about the bruising reaction and odor.

Cut it in half vertically, then scrape the inside with your knife edge hard to bruise the tissue. Color changes can take place within a few minutes up to a hour. It is possible for different parts of the mushroom to bruise differently from each other.

The odor in Agaricus is usually strongest where the stem and cap join. If no odor is noticeable there try the base of the stem (which it look like you cut off). If you still can't detect an odor, try crushing the base of the stem and sniffing some more.

Some Agaricus are excellent edibles, others are poisonous. None are active (that I'm aware of).

Happy mushrooming!

Spore print is kinda blackish brown. No red to it. Maybe a little green in it.

I too believe that this is a wild type Agaricus. The gills will be initially pink and turn to brown when spore production begins. If not then it may not be Agaricus. I have seen a very simiar fruit growing here in the Tampa By areas.
