Baking soda works well just make sure SHROOMS NEVER TOUCH BAKING SODA!! You will need to make some kind of rack in drying chamber

i dry with a fan, and then finish off with desiccant. i find they don't get "cracker dry" without that last step. can you order some off the internet? there are many options if you can. i'm surprised that your local hardware store doesn't carry something...

Look around at some THIFT STORES. You can sometimes find a good dehydrator for around $5 (if money is the issue).
Next Best bet is to spend $40 at any large Mart store & buy a new American Harvest SnackMaster Dehydrator. Set it on 95F & forget it.

Yup, your best bet is to go with the nesco american harvest, easily found around town or on ebay.

Dehyrator is the way to go.
Otherwise...you need kitty litter WITH SILICA GEL crystals. Its not the indicators that are important in that kitty litter, but the silica gel itself. I would imagine kitty litter without, wouldnt PULL moisture out of the air very well...it only absorbs the moisture that falls onto it. The silica crystals would pull it out of the shrooms and the kitty litter absorbs it. You could also get some damp rid or silica crystals and mix it with the kitty litter..or put kitty litter, then the desiccant, then the shrooms over it.

Try a search on using baked epsom salts. I've heard it works excellent (some say better than damp-rip) as a desiccant and I'm sure you'd have no trouble finding it.
