Help Identifying mushrooms... first ones ive found :)
    #4203125 - 05/21/05 01:29 PM (11 years, 6 months ago)

This first kind, I found in the middle of a field/lawn. It is mostly white and the gills have a brown tint to them. They are about 5 inches tall. They grew alone (single). Here are some pictures...

The cap

Gills

More gills

Here is the second type I found. They were in a patch on the side of a rotting jumble of tree roots, with a bunch of soil and crap all over it. They werent really in the sun (sort of under the log) and they grew off the side then curved up. They are orange-brown and the gills also have a brownish tint to them. Some were big, like 5-6 inches in diameter and some were alot smaller. Im thinking this one is Gymnopilus spectabilis but I am not sure.

Here are pictures of that one:

Cap (got squished in my pocket...)

Another Cap

Also, I live in southwestern Ohio. Thanks to anyone who can help... and if these are active shrooms, would anyone know how much to eat fresh? :mushroom2:

Edit: I left a bunch of info out i guess... but i took some notes:

1st shroom-(white one)
Gills-attached (i think, if that means attached to the edge of the cap?), brown, sort of close together
Cap- smooth, slimy, white, 3-5 cm in diameter
Stem-not hollow, white
scent- sort of a sweet smell

Shroom 2-(orange ones)
Gills-attached, light-brown, close together
Cap-orange/brown, smooth, has some wrinkles, slimy, some are dark around the edges, and some have a raised center that is darker in color. 4-7cm diameter.
Stem-not hollow, light brown. 8-12 cm long

I dont have the spore prints yet..but ill update this when they are done.

We need to have a rule.

If the pictures are not worth posting...then dont post them.

I think it is time that people learned how to take real pictures.
