I'll hold my opinion until i actually hear the arguments as to why full-blown, last-ditch obstructionism is necessary. Specifically I want to hear why these judges are so extremely over-the-top that this action needs to be envoked. If they have a good reason, then so be it but I have heard nothing to convince me of that as of yet.
Simply claiming the title of majority party when they are the minority party is not good enough.

Mainstream as defined by who? The party that got fewer votes?

I was pretty sure the only name you could come up with would be Fortas. Read your own link "Republicans and southern Democrats" objected so much that he was withdrawn. Seems like members of both parties had a problem with ol' Abe. You also said judges. That is a plural word. You do know that means more than one, don't you? I eagerly await your list.

I concede.. I can only find the one. But that doesn't change the fact that the dems are not destroying 200+ years of tradition. Republicans filibuster too. It has function, and there is no reason to eliminate it, for temporary political gain.

Just because something has been a tradition for 200 years dosent make it right. Im not going to advocate against the filibuster, but cant you find some better reason then "tradition"?

Well, it's not actually 200 years of tradition and it has been changed several times already.

I was replying to Divided Sky. I personally couldn't care less about the filibuster. What pisses me off is the Republicans lying. Plenty of Republicans have voted for filibusters in the past, even if they didn't go through. Now they come up w/this destroying tradition line. I have no love for Democrats either, but they aren't pulling such rank BS out of their asses at the moment. numerous GOP senators who have blocked nominees

Oy, Raw Story again. You don't "vote for a filibuster." You can vote against cloture but that is not the same thing as "voting for a filibuster." And if the filibuster never took place then there was, doh, no filibuster. Apparently their idea of voting for a filibuster is every vote that anyone ever took that was against bringing cloture. Assinine points by assinine people.

Yeah, the whole idea of a fillabuster is that you CAN't VOTE on a nominee. That site has it all wrong. Calling people liars because you don't have your facts straight is weak.

The whole point is it takes 60 votes to beat a filibuster, not just 51.

I think that judges should get an up or down vote, but it isn't a really big issue with me. I wish that they could just get it done and get it off the news. This country has bigger problems. It seems like the Democrats like to make every little thing into a war.
Some Democrats have threatened to shut the government down. I hope that they do this. The republicans shut the government down in the 90's and nothing happened. Shutting the government down only goes to prove to people that life goes on and we really can survive without such a big intrusive government.
One interesting thing about the judge situation is that the Democrats seem to fight hardest when a latino or black conservative judgeship is on the line. I don't think that they like the thought of those people becoming role models in the minority community. I think that for the Democrats race is an unspoken issue behing a lot of these games. I have no way to substantiate that argument, just my own speculation.

It seems that according to modern liberal political philosophy, if you are a minority and not a liberal you are a race traitor, an ingrate or just too stupid to realize what's good for you. Which just goes to show how intolerant and condescending liberals are.
