Well, looking at the liquid growth items, one would think that you could use just straight sucrose and water would serve as a growth medium....opinions? Stay frosty.

here i am the high school biology teacher, lecturing in my off hours. honey contains anywhere from fourty to sixty percent dextrose, depending on the flowers from whence it comes. more importantly, it contains antibiotic substances that give you an ever so slight edge against contam. dextrose is a monosaccharide, while succrose is a polysaccharide, it is easier for the mycelium to digest. there is also some evidence that they produce no active indoles when fed only simple sugars. some mycelium may lack the needed enzymes to break down more complex carbohydrates in a licuid medium, where it, the enzyme, may be carried away by the water. hope this helps. not enough is known about licuid culture. it is truly a new frontier in science that is open to amater exploration without great expense. keep up the research!

About 2-3 weeks ago, a foaf innoculated some honeywater with a blended up mushroom. It worked great, tons of little mycelliun grew. However, it has taken my friend some time to get his ass up and get some more substrate, so he is concerned that maybe hi baby mycellium might have died since then (three weeks maybe, 1tbsp. honey in 1 pt. jars). Do the mycelium drown if left in the honeywater too long? Or maybe they ran out of food. How can I tell if they are alive still? My foaf is going to try to innoculate some more jars tonite, but I was just wondering what his chances were. Thanx

The mycelium should still be fine after three weeks and probably even three months. Honey Tek is not an easy method to use. It contams easily and the contams are often not noticable until after it has been used used to inoculate.

At a 10% solution, sugars become toxic to mycelia. So mix carefully. I use a 5% solution.
