Indian cuisine = the shit

I discovered Indian food relatively recently... and let me just say that it's the most satisfying type of food I've ever experienced. Their vegetarian dishes are amazing, giving me a literal 'high' that far surpasses crap like cheeseburgers or pizza. Plus they always have groovadelik music playing, and all sorts of soothing artwork everywhere.
It's just so fucking gooooooood.

You are so right-Indian Food is the bomb!
there are these amazing Indian lunch buffets in Jackson Heights (Queens, NY) that are like 7 bucks. The one I've been to, Indian Taj, has usually about 10 entrees, and this stuff called "chat" which is basically like a do-it-yourself Indian snack salad that can consist of almost any fried thing (pieces of samosa, pakora or just crispy fried dough in skinny noodle-type shapes), cold boiled potato, chick peas and then you put all this sauce on it, like fresh homemade yoghurt, tamarind, green minty sauce, onions, and if you want you can sprinkle on some cumin, cayenne, salt. Whatever you want.
If you haven't already, try Southern Indian food, its really different. Most places cook the Muglai, or Northern Indian style, which is a lot more heavy and saucy. Down south there's way more Hindus, so the veggie offerings are more extensive, and they have this thing called a Dosa, which is like a giant crepe-y lentil pancake stuffed with spicy fillings, usually potato.
Anyway...keep on snackin'

@DeadPhan:
If you don't like spicy go for a korma, it is the least spicy thing-usually more creamy and sweet.

I guess I might have just gone by the wrong restaurant or something. But I ate at this one place where the food really did look and taste like diarrhea. It was some type of "meat" that did not look or taste like meat, and was covered in this nasty yellow creamy stuff that was NOT curry. I had stomach cramps for the rest of the night after eating there and have never been brave enough to try another indian place after that. Though I would make my own food if I had some recipes that sounded any good. Got anything you would reccomend looking for?

I have just begun to discover this wonderful style of food, and have only tried a handful of dishes.. I had the vegetable curry lunch special today, some of the best 7 bucks I've ever spent on food.. it comes with the curry, rice, the bread (I think it's called nom?) and salsa. Simple stuff for sure, but most satisfactory. I can't wait to delve deeper...

Ahhh to hell with the Indian food. Iv heard some bad stories of people eating that junk.. Get yourself to nice authentic family owned Italian Ristorante. I'm sure there are a few around your area. If not a good franchise is the Olive Garden. mmmmmm.
What's wrong with pizza??? There are good pizza shops around. There has to be atleast one non-franchise family owned pizza shop around your area. I hope anyway. If not that sucks for you. Here in NY State it's easy to find a good pizza shop. I hear good things about NJ state and Chicago, IL too.

I thought Olive Garden was over-rated... I liked their bread and salads, but the dishes I've tried were bland and gluttonous. Pizza is good, but it just doesn't give me the same HIGH I get from eating Indian. It's a glowing satisfaction you get when you eat something that completely fulfills your hunger. I don't get sick, feel like I've eaten too much, or anything like that with Indian. But hey, I'm a weird dude.

Maybe Ill give Indian food a shot one of these days. I don't even know if there is an Indian joint around here. Ill look into it though.
About Italian dishes you must understand that it is Italian custom to make sure you get enough or more than enough to eat. Our food and especially sunday dinner is a big part of our culture. If you get back to the Olive Garden you should give their Chicken Parmigiana dish a try and make sure you ask for tomato sauce with it. The first time I went they gave me marinara sauce. It isn't too big of a dish. They give you two decent sized pieces of chicken and a decent amount of spaghetti. Yes the salad and bread is incredible there. I always get the neverending salad and bread. mmmmmm.

Yeah Italians like to make sure you are stuffed with good food. My grandma is from genoa and she loved to cook all the time and feed everyone.. whenever my friends would come over she would always make sure everyone left full of awesome home cooked food.
But Indian food is indeed the shit..!
Deadphan- They use curry in a lot of dishes.. but I don't know if I would really call that spicy. And in my experience the vegetarian dishes are always the best.. they just don't seem to know how to cook meat properly.. which is just as well. Most indian food is vegetarian.
Samosas are the shit.. good appetizers.. like a crispy bread skin filled with potatos and peas.. anything with chutney is good. they have lots of nice breads.. and all kinds of delicious veggie dishes. You can't really go wrong.. check out a menu page of a popular chain - http://www.themenupage.com/bombaymenu.html
